Great for the Ice Packs, drives make good doorstops.
I bought these simply for the "Ice Pack" tray which this model converts SAS to SATA 3.5 form factor, and keeps my drives cool. I replaced the 160GB drives, those are moving ZERO, hence the "Slow"! I use these trays on 15k.3 SED drives in a RAID 5, keeps them ice cold! If you need to convert SAS to SATA pinout, and mount in a 3.5" bay which needs an adapter anyway, and a seperate SAS adapter for your fanout cable, you can have it all in one right here! Just get the right ones, some only do SATA. I have also seen models where you can see the pins for a second channel of SAS across the top, these are only single channel, and they have worked great on every SAS drive I have tried..

Great Upgrade from a 7200 RPM EIDE HDD
FIRST: Always do your research on internal components to be sure " It Fits " your system cabnet. This is a laptop HDD, and is very fast using SATA Gen-1 on my older PC. It blows my old 7200 RPM EIDE HDD out of the water. You will need the " Caddy " to mount the HDD in to be able to properly install it in a standard PC tower device slot. It should easily drop right into typical laptops with no issues. My drive, upon receipt needed to be initialised, partitioned, formatted, and was then ready to load the OS to. It's dead
Computer wouldn't recognize it. Any computer I tried it in wouldn't recognize it. I formatted it to NTFS, FAT32, and FAT16. I also tried a couple Linux formats and OSs. When the computer is turned on you can hear it spool up but that's it. You'll have that buying used parts.
