My laptop is a Acer 4630z. It originally came with a Pentium D chip at 2 GHz. I bought this chip based on the multiplier. Seeing that most laptop bus speeds are locked. With a multiplier of 12 & front bus speed of 166 I expected to maintain the 2 Ghz speed, but nope. This chip boosted the front bus speed to 200. times that by 12 & you have 2.4 Ghz speed. I have seen heat spike over 75 degrees c. (watching Netflix) & that's hotter than I'd prefer so I'm going to look into better cooling options, Or another chip. Overall I'm very satisfied with this chip. Unlike my Dell Inspiron 2200 I did have to full dismantle my laptop to install.

I got a Core2Duo T7700 to replace the T5250 in my old Acer 5620. The motherboard is the well known Columbia 48.4T301.01N and with the latest BIOS it will work with Meroms (T7x00) and Penryns (T9x00) with a FSB of up to 800MHz. So the most you can get is the T9500, but it is an expensive CPU for a computer that is a end-of-life product. Passmark index for T5250: 831. Passmark index for T7700: 1426. Passmark index for T9500: 1830. This CPU can be had for 16 euro, and is a good price to boost about double the computing power of the notebook. Installation was simple: remove fan, remove heatsink, replace CPU, drop ArcticSilver5 thermal paste and reinstall heatsink and fan. It works noticeable faster, after all, a T7700 is about 75% of the computing power of a Intel i3 330M. The T9500 is the same computing power of a i3 330M. Of course the main problem with the Acer 5620 is the Vista Operating System, that can be enhanced by turning off several useless services like Superfetch, Readyboost and Windows Search.Read full review
