This switch works great ! This is how I used it. I have a Linksys router in the house . To get internet to the garage I went wireless and have a Linksys access point set up to receive internet from the house. It has one Ethernet port. So I could not have more than one computer on at a time. I installed the switch and now I can have up to 5 machines in my garage hooked up to the internet ! No setup needed. Plug it in and it works. What I learned from google is that a switch rather than a hub is what was needed for my situation. The only surprise is the size of it. It is half as wide as my Linksys WRT54G router and access point. So if you wanted to stack it on top of each other and look the same they make a 9 port and more model that might have the same size.

The transition from hubs to switches was a major improvement in network technology. These small, inexpensive switches from linksys have been a staple in my toolkit. I have never had one fail, and they are useful, on the desktop or in the server room. It is not SNMP manageable, but handy nonetheless. Perfect for home use where four to eight ports is enough, these switches are great. The only area of improvement would be a more secure power supply connection. A piece of tape usually is more than sufficient in rare cases where the connector is loose. 7/23/2013 dwg - Over time I have rethought my opinion of Linksys, and I am hesitant to recommend them any more. They may do all right with simple things like switches (unmanaged) but I considered it unwise of Cisco to buy Linksys as a consumer level vendor of networking products. I have had significant trouble with LInksys, varying from dead units, to poor customer service. For example I made an agreement to have a returned router replaced with a different version, and when the replacement arrived, someone had scratched out the version I was supposed to receive on the shipper in pencil, and shipped me the same bad version I had returned. Shipped at my expense I may add.Read full review
This is a great product. It is small and easy to use. Worked out of the box. I wanted a switch with the connectors on the back and the lights on the front and this fit the bill.

I used them before and always works. Linksys products are consistently a good fit for home, soho, small to mid size business. This switch is a good fit for needing to add ports anywhere needed. I used this in my home entertainment center to tie my TV,Blu-ray, and Xbox 360 to the internet. This will also allow expansion when I upgrade my Satellite to HD.
