Homicide: The Complete Series has every episode of a TV show that I haven't seen in years. It includes episodes that I missed when they were first aired back in the 90s and crossover tie-in episodes of Law & Order. This show was well written, well acted and well shot, as the Baltimore settings are something that are not seen every day on television or cinema. I especially found refreshing that characters, both good & bad, were of a diverse ethnic background and of varying age groups...how many shows based in NY or LA can say they accurately reflect their community's diversity? For the most part, those shows have me saying "wow, look at all the white folk"...Homicide made the show believably authentic (and entertaining) with its variety of heroes & villains (sometimes in the same character), grizzled veterans & optimistic rookies, cynical locals & quirky background characters...this all made the show less predictable & more entertaining than flashier Hollywood-style productions, such as the very formulaic Nash Bridges, the show that consistently beat it in weekly ratings, which ultimately led to Homicide's cancellation. Did I mention how great the music was on the show? Or how little violence was shown? Whenever there was gunplay or beatdowns, they were major plot points that had lasting repercussions, not just another day at the office. This realistic series ended too soon, but is still very entertaining in the 21st century.Read full review
If you’ve watched Homicide you know what I’m talking about, if you haven’t just imagine what perfection might look like with a badge and a gun. Baltimore is the backdrop for these Murder Police with the grit that this city is known for. Each actor in this series brings it hard and lays it all out before you. Guest star Robin Williams gives a heart-wrenching performance in the “Bop Gun” episode. The portrayals displayed in every episode makes this the ultimate series for people looking to understand the harsh realities faced by the nation’s homicide detectives.

And it isn’t streaming anywhere! Cop it (pun intended!) Great for Hons, Baltimorons, or just plain people who like cop dramas. If you like The Wire, Treme, or The Deuce, the casting alone will draw you in. Crossover episodes with Law & Order too. Boom.

My family has only made it to volume six and having members of my family in law enforcement I find the politics and stress as close to realism as it can be. We have enjoyed the series as much as Law and Order and my only regret is that there are not as many volumes in Homicide as there are in Law and Order. We will enjoy this series for many years and I feel that we will not get tired of watching because every time we catch something new that was missed that last time we watch. I highly recommend the series to all who enjoy this type of entertainment. Thank you.
Have only had time to watch a few episodes, but it looks like it will be good. May be a tiny bit dated, but still solid entertainment. Should fit in well with other shows of the kind like The Wire and The Shield.
