I took my kids to go see the 2 Chipmunks films that were recently in the theaters and thought it would be cool if they could see the real thing from when their dad was a kid their age. Actually, if I could I'd put this somewhere around "below average" and "average." Sure, it says the very first Alvin show - which it does have - but then the rest is just filler. The rest of the content are the shows that were made during the '80s that were very poorly made (both in terms of animation and content). Also included is a tired, dated "special" with Will Smith during his Fresh Prince of Bel Air days and a bunch of cameos by people who are no longer popular. (Really... When was the last time you ever saw Shelly Duvall?) When I put my order in I was hoping for a lot of retro shows. But you just get that one. If you're hoping to show your kids the cool Alvin of the days of yore, forget it. If you want some good retro, expect to be very disappointed. If you just want your kids to have something to stare at, it might be passable. But I'd keep walking if I were you.Read full review
If you're into nostalgic and like to get'MUNKED,'this is a good one! Dave Seville, Alvin, Simon and Theodore at their BEST! I like it because both adults and children can watch and enjoy it without any of today vulgarity! I also enjoy Will Smith's part in 'interview' part of it! I bought this DVD along with the 2007 'CHIPMUNK' movie to fuse the past with the future. Always like them and grew up with them-literally! Overall, I recommend this DVD for family viewing!
For those of us who remember, Alvin and his siblings were a lot less obnoxious than than they became during disco in the seventies. Unfortunatley, they have remained just as bad right up till today. This all too short DVD takes us bad to a simpler time, and is enjoyable for children of all ages. You even get to hear the great opening theme song. Best of all, Alvin doesn't learn anything about how to express his feelings, Simon never resolves why his real parents left him, and Theordore has no problem with his "self-image". The icing on the cake is an appearance by Clyde Crashcup, the great inventor, who, by the way, actually invented icing. This led him to invent cake so he would have something to put the icing on. Let's hope he'll invent the Original Alvin Show box set soon.
Very good dvd. No problem with purchase! Thank you
