About this product

Product Information

The Tech 21 NYC SansAmp Bass Driver DI pedal makes for a fine addition to your show gear. For musicians who wish to enhance their sound, it provides solid effects quickly and easily. Electric basses are inherently difficult to hear because the pitch is so low. With this preamp, however, your instrument is the star of the show. Funky slap tones or traditional pitches are available at the flick of a switch and the press of a pedal. You can distort your sound with the SansAmp driver when an intense tune is on the lineup. When you’re playing something chill, you can tone it down with subtle rhythms. This classic pedal offers several different features, including distortion and tone changes. The Tech 21 SansAmp DI includes three different outputs. This way you can enhance your existing rig or drive external components like PA mixers, recording desks, or power amps. It comes with built-in sample style settings. These emulate sounds from acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and other acoustic and electric instruments. The driver includes knobs for Level, Blend, Presence, Bass, Treble, and Drive controls. Level controls the output levels from the 1/4 inch and XLR outputs. Blend lets you mix the bass guitar signal directly with the built-in SansAmp Tube Amplifier Emulation technology. This is especially helpful when using the unit with an instrument that has Piezo pickups. Simply activate this tube amp emulation tech with the unit's footswitch. Presence adjusts the upper harmonic content and definition of the tone. Drive modifies the overall overdrive and gain structure. The active EQ controls let you cut and boost levels up to +/- 12 dB. These have been specifically tuned for bass guitars. A bass shift button allows you to further switch this frequency between 40 Hz and 80 Hz.This effects box won the 2008 and 2009 Bass Player Reader's Choice Award. This version, Version 2, is a more advanced incarnation of the Version 1 SansAmp distortion effects pedals. It was produced in response to the growing popularity of basses with five and even six strings. It has features that allow basses with more strings to take advantage of effects accessories. This version features an additional mid-level control knob. It also has its own Mid Shift button to change frequencies between 500 Hz and 1,000 (1 kHz).With included output ports for your amp and mixing console, this SansAmp audio solution provides all-in-one assistance accessories. On the right of the driver is the input as well as a parallel out. There are two additional outputs on the left side of the chassis. These are a 10 dB 1/4 inch out and a phantom and ground connect XLR out. These connectivity options lend flexibility to the device. The unit weighs 14 ounces, and measures 4.75 inches by 3.75 inches by 2 inches. There are several ways to power the unit. It is phantom power operable. Alternatively, you can use either an optional DC power supply or a 9V alkaline battery. A red indicator light lets you know when the pedal is powered.

  • Very nice tones!

This is a bass pedal with very nice adjustable EQ & memory bank. Tone adjustments are so easy & you can save it quickly for use according to the type of music you want to use it to. After looking at several YouTube videos, I decided to buy this one & it never disappointed me. Have one & witness it yourself first hand!

  • Really good, could be better

The Good: Most everything you read about in the reviews - sound, ease of use, functionality, flexibility, etc. The Bad: (1) The XLR out maxes at 0 dB, which means that you have to find a way to goose the signal to +4 dB if you want to record directly into a pro recorder. (2) Sans Amp should include a DC power source in the deal, rather than have the owner either (a) use a 9v battery (ugh) or (b) try to guess what kind of power source to buy (and what size insert connection).

  • Still one of the best bass DI/Preamps

No matter what Bass you're playing, no matter what pick-ups you are using the Tech21 Sansamp makes it that much better. Think of it as the seasoning to your dish. A lot of times the seasoning can make or break a dish and I have found no matter which bass I run through it- whether the stock Fender Mexican jazz or the custom Precision with on board preamp and upgraded pick-ups, a few little tweaks of the dials is all it takes to put your tone over the edge.

  • Grea piece of kit

Great tones, easy to use, features I use, versatile, reliable, small and light. Rock, Blues, Jazz, electric or acoustic, frets or not, 4 or 5 strings, studio or live, it's all good.

  • Good Deal.

As described. On time. I will say that I prefer the 1st generation (v1) SansAmp Bass Drivers over this newer version (v2). I find the addition of the mid knob, mid shift, and bass shift to be unnecessary and more complicated. It was simpler and quicker to get a rad tone from the 1st generation model. But, maybe that is just because that is what I am used to. With some fiddling, I was able to get an appropriately rad tone out of this SansAmp Bass Driver v2.

  • SansAmp Bass Driver a real winner!

I use my SansAmp Bass Driver to plug my Fender P bass guitar directly into the recording console. It gives me and any other player the control they need without having to ask the engineer. A perfect front end for professional recording!

  • Indispensable tool

I tour continuously and this is the best thing I've found to date through which to play direct. I do not play much with the settings. The manual offered a setting for an SVT and I have found that to give me all I need for all around concert use when my only monitor is a wedge or IEM's. I have not used this in front of an amp as yet though I know many who do. I use this for when there is no amp and the difference in an A/B comparison is night and day. It lives in my gig bag.

  • Very Happy

I love it, would recommend it for any rock/metal bassist, although it is perfect for that fuzz tone for the Jazz styles. Overall, high quality product with an excellent function allowing all sorts of tones to be experimented with.

  • good sound but a little too much hum

I have mostly been using it as a stompbox in front of an ampeg svt7 pro, just to add a touch of warmth and grit if i need it. it does everything i want it too however if you push the blend or presence too high it does get a rather loud hum, So minor adjustments are a must with this thing. if you boost the bass and treble there is a mid scoop too. there is no mid control knob, however you can boost the mids by cutting the bass and treble. I have only messed around with the DI a little, but it seems to sound fine. overall i am very happy with it and would recommend it despite these few complaints
