Great sound

A Superb upgrade to my TV's sound!!!
My old 32" LCD TV died back in August and I finally replaced it with a SONY KDL40W650D 40" TV which is 36" wide. The Yamaha YAS-108 is 35" wide and it sits on the shelf right in front of the TV, looking as of it's 'part' of the TV - VERY NICE in the "looks" department! But the SOUND is remarkable - it's the "sound" the TV should come with - voices have 'bodies' behind them and doors "thud" when slammed. The lowest octave or so, is missing, but otherwise the sound is truly amazing and satisfying, way, way, WAY beyond the "thin" wispy sound of the TV's built-in 5 watt per channel speakers. I found the standard stereo 2-channel sound works best for overall viewing and switched-off the default 'surround sound' which added 'spaciousness' to the soundstage but diffused the speech too much for my liking. The 3 speakers for each channel and the 60 watts per channel are more than sufficient in my 11' x 15' space and the Sony TV remote controls both the TV and Yamaha soundbar. I only 'review' items that I actually own and use and this YAS-108 soundbar easily deserves ALL 5 STARS!!!!!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Surprisingly full sound from a compact, inexpensive speaker!
I was surprised how good this sound bar performs by itself. Paired with my subwoofer via the sub out port, it fills the room with pleasing, balanced sound. It is one of the few products in this category where the alternate tone settings actually make the sound better! I expected too much
I blame myself. You get what you pay for as the saying goes. I read the good reviews and liked the idea of the built in woofer and the slim design. Excellent sound quality
We have gone through a number of sound bars. Lesser priced ones have bad sound quality and almost always come with some annoyances, like the sound bar automatically turning off, the music being equalized (and cannot disable).
