  • Upgraded from an i3-550. Never looking back.

I just recently installed a gtx 1050 ti and noticed that my i3 was bottlenecking Halo 5 Forge and Forza Horizon 3. I have an OEM Gateway motherboard and I upgraded my ram to 12 gbs. This is the best LGA 1156 processor thats also the cheapest. It is the same as an i7 870 (but 40 dollars cheaper and supports more RAM). I took out my heat sink and the old i3. Popped this in and hoped my oem mobo would support it. I put everything back and turned it on and it worked. Everything was slow for a little bit and only one of my monitors was being detected, so I waited and then it sped up to full speed. I ran Halo 5 and Forza and hit 60+ FPS. I’m very happy with its performance.

  • Great CPU 4 cores 8 threads

This is a great Processor at the base frequency it's still able to play games like Apex, Fortnite and Tomb Raider with frames over 60fps. If overclocked it performs even better especially if your able to get it to 4GHz on Air you'll be satisfied

  • Excellent Upgrade for any LGA1156 System

I ordered this CPU to replace the Core i5-650 in my Dell OptiPlex 980 DT. Updating the BIOS to at least version A16 was necessary for Xeon support on that system. This CPU is identical to the Core i7-870, but it has a better memory controller (supports 32GB of memory on the Xeon versus 16GB on the i7) and can be found for a better price. Compared to the i5-650, this Xeon is a better all-around CPU. Single threaded performance is marginally better, and multi-threaded performance is significantly better. The Xeon allows the memory to be run in a 2x8GB configuration; the i5 would always crash when booting with that configuration. The Xeon runs hotter than the i5 (being a 95W 45nm part compared to the 72W 32nm i5). In the Optiplex, the Xeon's temperature reaches the mid 70s under an all-core load, sometimes reaching into the 80s if the load is sustained for long enough. Idle temperatures are around 40C. According to HWMonitor, the Xeon's power consumption reaches 107.7W under load, and drops to 12.09W when idle. Unlike other CPUs I've used, which adjust power usage at all times based on usage, the Xeon is either idle or running at full power. This can cause temperatures to increase into the 60s under a light to moderate load. Overall, the Xeon X3470 is an excellent upgrade to any LGA1156 based system running a Core i7-860 or lower. It can be found for better prices than the i7-870 and the slightly faster Xeon X3480 and i7-880. Just be sure your power supply and cooling can handle it.

  • Recycled Xeon CPU's are a great bargain and will breath new life in to old PC's.

Upgraded to the (used) Xeon X3470 on my old MSI P55 Cd53 motherboard. I now have it overclocked to 3.9Ghz and it is running smoothly at nominal temperatures. This allowed me to also upgrade my RAM to 16Mb of DDR3 2133Mhz! (it came with DDR3 1333Mhz). So this was the best $17 I ever spent on computer parts. My previous processor was a first generation Core i5-650 (dual core) running at 3.2Ghz but was not over-clockable at all.

  • Nice, cheap upgrade for older pc

Product was cheap and was a nice upgrade for my older pc. Still not nearly as fast as a modern cpu, but this product allows my older pc to still be usable with less bogging down compared to my I3.

  • Cheap way to inrease computing performance on old LGA1156

My 8years old computer (HP-420CS) based on LGA11156 socket with Core I5-750 needed more computer power. Overcloking was not possible as motheboards does not suport it, thus one the most easiest options was to buy more powerfull cpu, e.g. Core i7 - 870 which is the same as Xeon 3470. Xeon supports more memory with ECC, have some additional server feature and most importantly is the fact that xeon cost 20-50USD less. Performance increase: 10 - 50% (video encoding, rendering, comressing, even games) Xeon works on the most of LGA1156 motherboards.

  • LGA 1156 Comes to Life!

Tossed this processor in an old HP computer and replaced an i5 750. Paired with a RX460 it made a fun little project that can handle light gaming perfectly. Performance gains were huge jumping from the i5 750 up to the Xeon X3470. Basically going from i5 750 to the i7 870.

  • Fast chip for its age

Nice chip for the price. Runs pretty hot under load when using its turbo boost with stock intel cooler. Saw it get up to about 3.7ghz using prime95 and temps shot up to about 90c. Looking at a some after market coolers now for it. Overall im very satisfied with my purchase. Great deal for a budget gaming rig for my son.
