I got this hard drive used for a good price, to fit into my external 2.5 IDE case. Gave it to my son who put a Linux OS on it, and now he keeps a basic computer system on it. He connects it to any ones computer and boots it up to play his games or whatever he needs to do with it. The point is, This was a great buy for me, the hard drive does what it needs to do and fits perfectly in a 2.5 external IDE case, it is also small enough to carry around even as a backup drive. It has only 100 gigs but for Linux that's a lot of space :).
The MK1031GAS 100GB proved a perfect replacement for a failed MK1011GAV HDD in a Toshiba T8000 Laptop (manufactured in 1999). The original caddy fitted the new HDD like a glove, as did the motherboard adapter. Great low cost hard drive for older IDE based laptops needing an upgrade. 100GB gives you plenty of room for a modern OS and updates as well as usable programs. For a basic use device this would be the perfect hard drive.
