The drive was easy to connect to the computer. It has a connection wizard. Then I formatted it with windows (quick format). Up and running in no time to accept files. I have another Lacie just like it and have been using it for years. I did transfer almost 400 mb onto it and yes it took a few hours but I was very happy to have the backup when needed.

Cost is a little bit more than other drives of the same size, but you do get what you pay for in this case. The drive is very quiet and fast for a 5400 rpm drive. The nice thing about these type of drives is the lack of a need for an external power supply. They get all the power they need from the USB cable. The only thing you have to remember is to use the shortest cable you can find, the longer the cable the less power that gets to the drive. That will result in slower performance and most likely data errors. Keep it under 10 inches and you will have no problems.
Size does matter when it comes to the Lacie Rikiki it is one is not the smallest hard drives you can buy. To give you a comparison it is similar in size and WEIGHT to a deck of cards. They come in 250-640GB sizes all with the same exterior demensions. I have the 500gb model and connecting it to a PC OR MAC is super fast and easy with no software headaches simple plug and play. It connects with a USB 2.0 for relatively fast transfers. It has a ultra sleek design which I love with the brushed aluminum exterior in a black finish. It is very rugged and minimalistic. Has one orange data light and needs no power source and gets its power from the USB 2.0 so no need to pack mutiple cables just slip the RIKIKI in your pocket and your carrying a libary of information! We truly are in the future! Also is very quite compared to other portable hard drives with almost no audible noise does get a little warm after extended use but I like that in noing its working. The price has come down on these to $80 for the 500gb shouldnt be too hard to find which makes it a great valuw and if your looking for a small hard drive to take every where I would definetly look at the Lacie Rikiki.Read full review
I really needed a hard drive but I wanted something simple and small but enough for what I needed to use for. This lacie hard drive is a really nice small size and it's space is big enough for I needed for, My only other comments are that the edges are a little sharp but its ok because I have a case for it. And the usb is quiet small but it doesn't bother me but it is something I also saw that many commented on.
