This line of cassette tape is exceptional in every way! It's the only chrome tape that I've used that has a sound profile that closely mirrors the best made type IV metal cassette, all for a quarter of the price! The headroom on this tape is very impressive. I recorded a rock piece on one-which ran the deck meter up into the +9 decibel in the red, level; without any discernible harmonic distortion at all! Just crisp, clear highs, excellent depth and dimensionality, with zero audio hiss during song play-without using the units Dolby B or C! This cassette offers an impressive 71db of dynamic headroom! For reference: a vinyl record tops out at about 55 db, and of course, CD's can run up to nearly 100 db-which this cassette can handle, if you use an HX Pro deck with Dolby C. I still have an old Fostex 4-track recorder that I use to write songs. The TDK Type II High bias is the best tape I have found for home studio recording and I would put it up against any digital computer recording program around.

This is TDK's 1988 version of SA or Super Avilyn cassette audio tape. By many, it is considered one of the best versions of SA that TDK ever made. The SA, Type 2 tape goes all the way back to about 1975. It was improved on with the advent of smaller, more dense oxide particles that gave the tape better dynamic range and crisp high frequencies. IMO, it is the most handsome example of TDK's SA heritage.
