  • Pretty Decent Knife

I just used this knife on a backpacking trip in Yosemite. One of the reasons that I purchased this knife was the Buck brand and reputation. It is a good quality knife, but unfortunately made in China. There is a notch at the base of the blade for using the fire starter, however I found that anywhere on the opposite (non sharp side of blade) works much better and produces much more spark. I love the look of the wood handle, its quality wood. Out of the box the blade is very sharp. I would definitely purchase this knife again.

  • good bad and ugly

Great knife, the only thing wrong is the sheath. It rides too high and the handle pokes you in the ribs. I use an s-biner by nite-ize to lower some of my knifes but there is no way to lower this one. Am looking for a new sheath

  • Work knife

Knife is well built and feels good in the hand. It seems to hold the edge like you would expect from a Buck. I like the sheath also. It holds the knife well and is easy to work with. I took the fire hickey off and made a filler piece out of leather to take it's place.

  • Hgh Quality Instrument

I've only recently begun collecting knives and recently bought the Selkirk to add to my collection. I am really imprressed with its quality. I know a lot of people are upset because this particular Buck is made in China, but I have to tell you, the knife is of extremely high quality. The fit and finish is superb. I also own several other Buck fixed blade knives and if it were not for the CHINA stamp, I woulld not know where any of the knives were made. They are all extramely well made. First, I love the design of the knife. It fits in the hand very well and has a good heft to it. It does feel heavier than it looks. The Micarta scales are gorgeous and are securely attached with three hex head fasteners. The finger guard and bolster appear to have all been cast together, and a part of the tang of the blade. The tang also appears to be full, and structurally integrated with the bolster and finger guard. I know this is probably a skeletonized tang, and may not be truly a full tang, but I am sure it will never present a problem. The blade has jimping along the top inch and is sharply cut into the metal. I think I read the blade is .145" in thickness, and was somewhat concerned that it might be on the thin side, but no worries. I think there is plenty of material and that the knife will hold up very well. The blade is flat ground, and was very sharp out of the box. I think the 420HC that Buck uses is a vey nice, very serviceable blade steel but wonder if the Chinese version is s good as the Bos treated? The sheath is very well done, and any complaints would be nit-picking. The whistle and ferro rod are a nice added touch, and would come in handy in the right situation. All in all, I am very happy with this knife. Everything is a compromise when producing a product like this, but I feel that Buck made all the right choices and has produced a fantastic product for an outstanding price. If you are considering this item, go ahead and buy it. You will not be disappointed.

  • Excellent value

I'm glad I made the purchase of this knife. Buck is a great brand and I have several pieces from them in my collection. This knife is well balanced and fits the hand nicely. The pommel strike on the end comes in handy when in the field. It's always nice to have a tool that can double or triple for other uses, at least on a limited basis. The sheath is one of the best I have had. It secures the knife firmly, yet allows easy access and deployment when you need to have it. And again, Buck thought about economy of space by adding a built in fire striker/emergency whistle. The blade is razor sharp out of the box, and I have not had to sharpen it yet, On the con side, although I like the handle, it could be a little more "grippy". That shortfall generally works itself out as it warms up in your hands through a few seconds of use. Overall, it's not an issue and hasn't effected confidence of use to any considerable degree. This is a really, really handy knife/tool. Get yourself one! You won't be disappointed.

  • CUT YOU THREE WAYS, LONG, DEEP and CONTINUOUS

Buck really did it with this knife. It is awesome. A true survivalist knife. Feels good in your hand and I have never been so at ease knowing that I have two of these now. One for my bug out bag and one on my shotgun scabbard. I will most likely get two more.. I love them. Thanks BUCK HOME RUN. Robert Post

  • Different but good!

Hey, I am not a fan of blades from China. But for the price point and all the functions of this knife, this is a really smart buy! Of course the blade "feels" different, but make no mistake! This is sharp and holds an edge! Keep it in a go bag or a back pack or strap it on any time you are in the woods. This will more than serve the purpose. I have even processed game with it! Nice set-up! Add Buck's forever warranty, which I personally know they honor......with no questions asked.......what's not to love here?!!

  • well made

Lots has been written about this "China" made buck in the magazines the last couple months. even though I buy USA made Bucks I wanted to see one of these. it is well made, not perfect, but well made. i am in Alaska. I can see no reason it would not be a good camp knife able to with stand good use and abuse. I am glad I purchased it.

  • Not the best Buck knife.

This isn't your normal Buck knife, the quality and materials aren't there. This could be an OK Boy Scout knife but not for the hunter and/or outdoorsman. And to top it all off - this knife is made in China. .. so obviously it is overpriced. ..
