One of Midway's most recognizable franchises makes its Game Boy Advance debut with the release of Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. Unlike previous versions of the title, the shooting action is played from an isometric viewpoint with levels consisting of tiles or squares. Players have a choice of four characters in the game, including an archer, Valkyrie, warrior, and wizard, each varying in strength, speed, armor, and magic. The object of the game remains the same: to kill those creatures trying to prevent players from locating the level exit. Experience points are earned for each defeated enemy, which will lead to new level promotions and added health points. Treasure chests and barrels also appear along the ground and may hold gold, food, magic, or special items. <br><br>As in previous versions of the game, keys are needed to open up gates and locked chests. Power-ups in the form of 3-Way Shot, 5-Way Shot, Reflective Shield, Reflective Shot, and Rapid Fire are available to help confront enemies such as scorpions, maggots, ogres, wolves, and more. Additional power-ups include speed boosts, gas masks, anti-death halos, and invulnerability. Four colored potions imbued with powerful magic can also be used to clear multiple enemies on the screen. Players will progress through five themed worlds in total, including Mountain, Castle, Desert, Ice, and Dream. Each world spans five levels and culminates in a battle against a giant boss creature. The overall goal is to retrieve the 13 missing rune stones needed to save the world from vile demons Skorne and Garm.Product Identifiers
