These quad core processors work well in the amd3 motherboards and are great for everyday operations such as internet, word processing and any day to operations they play video just great. Compared to dual core processor they fly. You can not use the MB from most AMD dual core and have to upgrade the MB and to DDR3, but presently both the MB and Ram used are dirt cheap, especially since the Ryzen7 and the Ryzen 5, the price for the AMD3+ MB and 8gb DDR3 ram can be had for around $60. Add that to the price of the Athlon quad core for around $30 and if you already have a case and hard drive and video card you can upgrade for less than a $100. As an added feature the MB will take the FX chips, after the Ryzen 5 hits the market, and the 8 series FX 8000 series will tank even more.

The CPU works great! But you have to update BIOS to the latest revision, and select "Fail Safe" setting. I have a motherboard from MSI, K9N6PGM2V2. I did the first and did not do the second. The motherboard used the previous setting which caused the system to crash and corrupt my hard drive. It took long time to rebuild hard drive twice. I believe the critical parameter in BIOS is hyperlink speed. The CPU works at 400 MHz. I don't know how high it can go. But 1000 MHz will crash!!!

This CPU provided a nice boost in performance for an older computer that was running an X2 240. If you do something similar just be sure that your CPU cooler is spec'd for at least 95 watts. An inexpensive upgrade that's well worth the money.
