Great Product
It may take some brews to finally get the flavor you want, but you can use almost any medium-ish grind to get decent results. If you don't have a grinder or fresh grinded coffee, you can still make amazing coffee with this. You can buy a 100 filter pack for like $25 or less, so be wary as the Chemex does not include the filters. The design is absolutely beautiful to look at as well; almost looks like decoration. If you want best results, use a scale, and freshly grinded coffee, however, as stated before, if you don't have any of these available, you can still work around and make really good brews.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Retro ritual
The design of the Chemex coffee maker takes me back to the days when it was first introduced (who would put the word "chem" in a food-related item today?), but that's not why I bought one. In a survey of 600 New Yorkers, Chemex won second place as the best-tasting coffee (#1 was some $6000 contraption). I like the ritual of making coffee in this pot. Put in a twice-folded filter (I cut a few 10" muslin circles so I don't have to worry about dealing with paper coffee filters.), add your coffee, "inoculate" it with a dribble of boiling water, let it sit a minute or two, and add the water. This process guarantees rich coffee with no bitterness. Clean-up is simple with a few hot-water rinses. The occasional scrubbing is a bit awkward with the narrow neck of the hourglass shape, but a bottle brush solves that. Spent grounds get tossed in the garden; cotton filter is rinsed and draped over the dish rack to dry. I live alone, so the six-cup size is perfect for one hot mug of coffee and, the remainder stored in a glass jar overnight, an iced coffee the next day. Or for two people, of course. You can certainly make half as much and have fresh, hot coffee every day. It's a pleasant way to make coffee and, more importantly, the NY survey was right.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Wonderful invention
Way cool coffee maker. Be sure to do 4 pours @ 1 minute each for best results. Use the natural filters, and pour some hot water on it before using. Cool pour over system makes smooth coffee and dishwasher safe.
We got this as a lightly used product, however it still came in the box and we got a bonus of 80+ of the natural Chemex paper filters included. We love it! Out son works for Starbucks and he brought it to work and made coffee for his co-workers. It's such a cool pour over system and it makes super smooth coffee. Once you've used it a bunch of times you start to get a feel for how much water to coffee you need and you can ditch the scale. They are nice while you have them!
I have owned them before. They are the best till they break. This one broke before we got to use it. This brush is perfect for cleaning my Chemex. I tried to "economize" by buying a $4.95 brush at the market! Bad idea.......too stiff to even go down into the Chemex.
