About this product

Product Information

Shoot crisp photos of far away scenes and objects with a high-quality telephoto lens. The Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 ED lens is a lightweight zoom lens that is easy to take on the field. The adjustable focal length and aperture help you achieve excellent clarity while capturing your subjects. This zoom lens is compact and easy to carry. Unlike many digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) lenses, this lens fits onto compact digital cameras, which lets you achieve amazing magnification with a fairly basic camera setup. The Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm lens offers a similar image quality to 80-300mm lenses for analog 35mm cameras. However, as it is compatible with digital cameras, it is a fantastic option for beginner photographers. Simply mount the lens on a compatible model and take excellent pictures without adding many other accessories. To adjust the focal length on the Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 ED lens, simply rotate the zoom ring to zoom the lens in and out. Although it is classified as a telephoto lens, you can use it for a variety of purposes. The 40mm focal length is actually smaller than the 50mm length required for a standard shot. This lets you take a wide-angle zoom shot, which takes in more of the background without having to step back from your subject. This comes in handy while taking landscape shots. Adjusting the zoom to 150mm lets you focus on a specific subject, which is ideal for capturing portraits on a location shoot, photographing architectural details, or shooting wildlife on the field. Although this lens is not designed for macro use, it can sometimes capture small objects at close range with excellent clarity. The aperture of this Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 ED lens is also adjustable. The f/4 setting allows lots of light into the camera without causing too much blurring and gives you a good depth of field for many shots. Expanding the aperture beyond the f/4 setting increases your depth of field, which increases clarity as you zoom. The Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 ED lens is tailored to fit the Olympus Micro Four Thirds system. The standard is compatible with several camera models from Panasonic Lumix and Kodak. The Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 ED lens is simple to use and lightweight, making ideal for shooting terrific photos wherever you go.

  • Very good value, if you can work with the limitations.

This lens represents a remarkable value. It's sharper than I expected, especially when closed down one or two stops. My copy gets sharper zooming past about 70mm, and seems to stay fairly sharp all the way to 150. I wouldn't expect it to hold up under any kind of rough treatment, or bad weather. It's also very light weight. If you can work with the limitations (in particular the small max aperture) it's well worth having. I have no doubt that the Olympus Pro zoom is better, but I'm not sure yet how invested I want to be in this system, so for me this is a good compromise. The photos shown are taken from the extreme corner of the frame, from left to right they are at 40mm f5, 40mm f7.1, 96mm f4.9, and 96mm f6.3; all were taken with a tripod mounted camera. No post processing done, other than Lightroom's conversion to DNG and then to JPG. I am no expert at lens testing! These show that my copy has pretty noticeable loss of sharpness in corners even stopped down at 40mm, but things get better at longer focal lengths. I plan to keep this in mind when using this lens.

  • Worth it to own despite some compromises

Buy this lens for its light weight, small size, and useful range. It is pretty good all the way to about 135mm. Racked out fully, I found it hard to focus sharply on small details that I was reaching for. I have used this lens with both the EM1-iii and Pen F with the same result. However, there is no other better option I have found for a small, light kit with this kind of range. Some compromise has to be expected. For casual snapshots and people pictures it is a lens you will likely use a lot, and you are likely to use it simply because you are willing to carry it. The useful hood can be stored on the lens in reverse to save space in the bag or pocket.

  • Olympus Micro 4/3 Digital ED 40-150 F4.0-5.6 R lens

Surprisingly sharp across the 40-150 range. Using with Olympus E-PM2. Not the fastest, so need a tripod if you want to maximize image quality/minimize ASA at high zoom setting, but true to a degree of any high zoom lens. Plastic body, nice and light, but still has a solid feel. Since this is for a micro 4/3 format camera, I would much rather have the weight savings than a metal body.

  • As good as expected

I am a rookie with this type of lens and did not know quite how to use it. The research I did in advance was the basis of my purchase it and I really enjoyed the results in the pictures. Used it at Yellowstone and love my pictures. It took me awhile to get used to manually zooming in and out and changing the lens based on what I was taking pictures of, but once I got the idea that this is a zoom and not for close ups or wide angle landscapes, I did alright. Even when I was unable to zoom in as close as I wanted, when cropped the pictures are sharp enough that it doesn’t matter. They might even be better than more zoom because the shake factor is reduced. The images were clear without a tripod. I expect they will be better yet when I learn how to use the features of the camera. The shipper got it to me in plenty of time for my trip and kindly worked with me to fix a situation I created when ordering. A very good experience throughout.

  • Easy to carry

Easy to bring in a small bag. Too early too say if it is durable. Most photos acceptable+. May be a little unaccurate with focusing in sports photography (I must analyze this first - gx7 is a good small camera, but may not be the no. 1 choice for action photgraphing) All in all a decent lens. Seems to work well with video

  • Kit lens does the basics great.

This 40-150mm kit lens does the basics well: good image quality, lite weight and compact. I don't think it is sealed, and it is Does focus as fast as the pro line lens. But, I did not purchase lens for pro feathers. I just wanted a native micro 4/3ths lens with good power for none fast action shooting. With my other lens I have coverage from 28 to 300mm worth of power without having to carry around a lot of Equipment.

  • excellent value for money

I bought this lens to complement a newly acquired (used) OM-D EM-1. I'm very happy with the pairing. The weight and size are impressive (on the small size!) and the quality of the product is great. Also it's really easy to operate and I'm having a lot more success capturing photos of the cardinal just ouside my office window - for reference my old Nikon D2x and 75 to 300mm just did not cut it...

  • Top Quality

Genuine Zuiko zoom. Fine quality: body and optics. As we can expect from Olympus. You can find on eBay for less than 100 USD. I paid about 70 USD. Like new condition. 40-150mm 4/3 Micro. 35mm equiv. 80-300mm. Very useful zoom range. Lens reasonably small and light. Excellent quality; including optical and mechanical. Not much heavier and longer than kit 14-42mm lens. Strongly recommend it.

  • Would be fine for parts if defective but all is good.

many lenses have issues but this one checks out fine. All functions ok when mounted on camera body. Lens is powered by camera body. An unmounted lens of this type will appear to be dead

  • Great Lens!

Got this lens for a great price and it arrived long before it was expected! Extremely happy with this lens. It's sharp, has fast auto focus and is very light weight, which makes it more pleasant to shoot with. Very pleased with the results I'm getting, and at this price, it can't be beat!
