Long before the suits at Satur...day Night Live thought about turning this comedy performance into a movie Steve and Doug Butabi (Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan) came into existence on the late night comedy show. The film's story is wrapped around the two brother playboy's dreams of opening their own club as cool as The Roxbury. The problem is, they are so uncool, they've never even been inside the Roxbury. They still live at home and work at a fake plant store owned by their dad who is pressuring Steve to marry Emily (Molly Shannon), the daughter of the owner of the lamp store located right next door. Steve and Doug do everything together and they think they are a GOD's gift to women. Trouble is, all women think they are jerks. Even when they go out to the club, that they can't even get past the bouncer at Roxbury so they usually wind up going to another sleazy place and continue trying to pick up women. Things start to look up for them when one night they get into a car accident with Richard Grieco (played by himself) who gets them into the club where they meet two "hotties", Cambi (Elisa Donovan) and Vivica (Gigi Rice). There were several errors in the films, but the funniest one is when Doug and Steve are parked at the Roxbury after getting in the wreck with Grieco, neither one of the cars is damaged, contrary to what the shot after the wreck showed. The whole idea of two regular, lazy, semi-lame guys trying to reach for a dream and live the good life is very appealing to me. I think what really got me was the soundtrack for this film, in particular the recurring dance song "What Is Love?" by Haddaway. By the end of the movie, it becomes sort of an anthem. It's almost strange to find yourself watching these two younger men and their rich but meandering lifestyle and think "Man, I wish I could do that!" Unfortunately, these two together are such dorks on screen, but that is what makes it so funny! The outfits, the attitude, the car are all part of the comedy too. The spoof of Jerry Maguire is a pretty funny last touch. Watch if you are in the mood for a good comedy with funny humor. I'll have to give this one a 5/5 for its fantastic useless idiotic narcissistic irony. IF LIKE MY REVIEWS PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO LET ME KNOW BY VOTING. THANKS!
This movie has been a... favorite of my husband & I for many years. We hadn't seen it in a long time, so I decided to look on Ebay, and found it for less than $5!! Chris Kattan & Will Ferrell are great together, and throwing in Richard Grieco as "himself" was a great idea!! It's about 2 brothers still living at home in their 30's, working at the fake flower shop, the family business, only while trying to open a club of their own, since they can't get in to the famous "Roxbury". The movie really unfolds after Richard Grieco rear-ends them. A MUST WATCH!!

Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell reprise their roles as ...Steve and Doug Butabi, two pathetic brothers who try to work their way onto the list of one of Hollywood's hippest nightclubs. Their biggest dream is to open their own club--the problem is they can't get into an existing one to see what it looks like. When two supermodels latch onto Steve and Doug thinking they've found the financial gravy train, it takes them some time to find out the truth about they state of the boys' bank accounts. Based on characters created by Kattan and Ferrell for a sketch on TV's Saturday Night Live.
IT SEEMS LIKE STEVE (FERRELL) A...ND DOUG (KATTAN) WILL NEVER BE COOL ENOUGH TO MAKE THE ROXBURY CLUB'S GUEST LIST. THAT IS, UNTIL THEY HAVE A FENDER BENDER WITH THEIR ROLE MODEL CLUB REGULAR RICHARD GRIECO. EAGER TO AVOID LITIGATION, GRIECO BEFRIENDS THE STARSTRUCK PAIR AND ESCORTS THEM INTO A GLITTERY WORLD THEY ONCE ONLY DREAMED ABOUT. SCORE! NO LONGER WILL THE HAPLESS BUTABIS BE A-CLUB PEOPLE LEADING B-CLUB LIVES...MAYBE.
Great comedy spin-off of a classic Saturday Night Li...ve skit. This is an accurate and hilarious illustration of the club scene of the 1990s that is most likely still only a slight embelishment. Will Ferrel is his wonderful idiot character, only drenched in cologne and designer clothes. Chris Katan is in his best role ever in this movie. Though this film will never be amongst the huge classics of comedy, it is still a much-quoted movie and a great for light laugh.
