We have quite a few older Cisco 7940 and 7960 phones at our office. The 1st generation Adtran Netvanta 1234 with PoE supports these phones, and their pre-PoE standard. I recommend upgrading them to the latest firmware available, and clearing the configuration. We had an issue at first with getting them to work, but after the firmware upgrade and configuration clearing, they worked great. A standard straight-through serial cable at 9600 baud works to communicate with the switch. The web interface seems to work well. We haven't used it for much yet, as these are currently just used as PoE switches, but they look easy enough to configure for VLANs and other features. For the money (usually around $60-80), these make an excellent value! We haven't had any reliability issues with the older Netvanta switches we bought.Read full review
