I purchased my 165 from someone that was using it in a server, it came in perfect condition and is an awesome upgrade to the sad single core I was using. Originally I was going to build an new i5 gaming system but I thought I would see if I could upgrade to a dual core instead. I found out that my old 939 system allowed me to upgrade to the Opty dual cores so I started looking for an inexpensive model. I was very lucky to find my Opty 165 for $30 and immediate bought it. At this point I decided to attempt to overclock for the first time to get as much as I could out of my old gaming system. I didn't want to spend too much money so I upgraded my cpu to this 165 and replaced my nvidia 1800 with a Radeon 4670 with 1gb ddr3 (got it for $50). ** The opty 165 is stock at 1.8ghz but I was able to push it up to 2.5ghz with no problems whatsoever (on the cpu end) and it was still nice and cool at 45c while gaming. I did install an aftermarket fan/heatsink with Arctic silver on the cpu.** Sadly I had to drop the Cpu down to 2.1ghz so that I could get my memory stable at 200mhz. I made the mistake of upgrading to 2g of ram from 1g a few years ago and didn't know enough back then to make sure and get the same type of ram. With mismached ram it is very difficult to overclock memory since timings are different. This is a great CPU with a good setup you could prob push it up to 3ghz on air. with my simple system I have been able to play crysis, farcry 2, Mass effect, and works great for World of Warcraft (40+ fps usually at 1920 x 1200 on a 28") which is my main game. all my programs work fine and my Super_PI went from 47 on my single core down to like 36. Obviously thats not amazing but all the parts except for the ones I mentioned upgrading are at least 5 years old. Bottom Line: Still a great dual core CPU (Dec 08 2009) if you can get one for around $50 or less. Any more $$ and you can get a triple or quad core amd for a bit more. I can run any programs in windows XP 32 and I can also play any game out there at acceptable frames.Read full review
I want to upgrade my computer to dual core, but others 939 pin dual core CPU are too expensive. The price are not reasonable. This one's spec is good then another. So I design to buy this!!
It works and at a Great price and that is a very important thing when it comes to upgrading an old 939 chipset computer.
Great processor, plenty of L2 Cache, x64, and can be found in socket 939, so inexpensive to revitalize your old pc.
