I purposely avoided a new receiver that was cheaper at a local retailer because I knew Denon makes one of the highest quality lines, and so I could get a PHONO input on a good 5.1 channel surround receiver. I figure I got this machine for about 1/2 price compared to new Denon models. It lacks for nothing, and has that important input. Power is abundant at 80 watts per channel, especially with Klipsch powered subwoofer. Using Boston Acoustics in front, Infinity center and rear. It will play clean and loud! Switching audio between sources is a little slow, so when you switch to live TV from CD, you may miss a couple words by the onscreen talking head. It's on purpose, of course, Denon knows why I'm sure. Haven't compared other brands in this respect, maybe all A/V receivers have a little delay. I very much like the remote--color coded keys are easy to see, and some glow in the dark. The surround functions are easy to balance and use accurately with test tone. FM reception via a small rabbit ears is excellent. I like to occasionally monitor my tapes as I record them (actually minidiscs) and the receiver allows this function via a selectable output that you don't have to listen to while recording, ala Yamaha receivers of old. Good versatility. Lastly, the styling pleases this old audiot who grew up on lots of knobs, at least it has three, unlike some of the new sterile button-pushing only receivers. Thus tone control is quick and easy, for example. Oh--it runs nice and cool, too.Read full review
I own many of the model AVR-1803 receivers. It is a workhorse, and out performs many other brands for double the money. Denon has many levels for this time period, and all are great receivers. For the money new or used, the Denon AVR-1803 is a fantastic product, and a fantastic VALUE!
This receiver is an older model but still performs quite well. The only issue I seem to be having with it is that it did not arrive with a remote and I have not been able to find a fully compatable replacement. I also have not been able to get the rear surrounds to work. It serves my basic entertainment needs and the price was right for a piece of vintage equipment. I still prefer my previous receiver and will most likely switch back to Pioneer equipment when this one reaches its end of life.
i was very pleased with my purchase. it was every thing i needed. i had this avr 1803 before and was very happy with . i have had devon equipment before and I'm very satisfied with the product.i still own a devon dvd player and have no problems with it.it has worked for many years without a problem.
Very expansive options. Reading the manual really helped maximize the awesomeness of this receiver!! All my HDMI's are going to my tv, and all my digital optical inputs go to the receiver.
