The finale of the 1981 season of Doctor Who, this also marks the final episode in which Tom Baker plays the Doctor and the first apperance of the fifth version of the Doctor (played by Peter Davison). Logopolis is part two of a three part storyline, and it picks right up where the Keeper of Traken (the previous serial) left off. Having just supposedly defeated the Master at Traken, the Doctor and Adric stop to measure an actual Police Box in order to conduct repairs to the TARDIS' chameleon circuit. However, a trap from the Master leaves the Doctor and Adric finding a TARDIS within a TARDIS within... well, you get the idea. With the Master within the Doctor's TARDIS, can the Doctor risk going off to Logopolis to get the chameleon circuit fixed? And what is the Master planning, anyhow? And what about the white figure following the Doctor around - how does he fit into all of this? The writing for this particular episode is pretty solid. However, the entire adventure feels like it would have been better as a 5 or 6 part serial, as the action in later episodes feels extremely rushed overall. Some scenes seem almost disjointed, with other moments seeming like the action moves from A to B with little reason other than the fact that the script says so. However, the acting is again top-notch, featuring wonderful performances by Tom Baker and Anthony Ainley. This episode also features the introduction of Tegan, played by Janet Fielding, bringing up the number of companions with the Doctor to a total of three for the first time in a while. For all the problems this serial does have, the adventure as a whole is an enjoyable one. Certainly a great way to say farewell to Tom Baker. Perhaps making up for some of the flaws in Logopolis is the sheer amount of bonus features in this set. Not only do we have audio commentary from Tom Baker (the Doctor), Janet Fielding (Tegan) and the writer Chris Bidmead, but we also have over an hour of bonus footage to enjoy. Of particular note is the 50-minute feature on the final passing-of-the-torch from actor to actor, which also includes how they filmed the Regeneration itself. Two more interviews round out the feature - featuring both Tom Baker and Peter Davison on their roles in the franchise. While the serial wasn't utterly fantastic, the bonuses more than make up for the flaws. If you really liked the Fourth Doctor, or the Master, this one's for you. If not, at least consider renting or borrowing it somehow - you just might enjoy it.Read full review
Great story, last of Tom Baker as Dr. Who #4 (at end he regenerates to #5, Peter Davison). Logopolis follows the theory of Block Computation, theory that at the basis of all reality (you go below atoms to protons to quarks) is only mathematics! So with the right math you could create anything or change anything in any way. On Logopolis are a colony of mathematical monks, living in their chambers, doing math, holding the Universe from extinction by fighting off entropy with math. And Dr. Who sent the to get his chameleon system fixed so he doesn't have to have the Tardis looking like a police box all the time. Unfortunately, The evil time Lord, The Master, shows up & puts a monkey wrench in the machinery. Will the whole universe disintegrate? Tom Baker for my taste has just the right balance of seriousness & humor. My little daughter way back when wept at the end of this when Dr. Who quasi-dies, actually regenerates. I wish Tom Baker had continued as The Doctor.Read full review

Good product. Better to buy by itself rather than part of the New Beginnings 3 pack. I had a problem with each dvd that was part of the NB 3 pack. The single played perfectly.

Always liked Tom Baker in this sci sci series. When PBS aired it years ago, the program concentrated on his acting as the doctor. The UK presented a great series.

Have had thought that it was a very curious that actress Janet Fielding was added as Tegan Jovanka. In addition, this was 3 companions too many. It would have been better if it was just one or two companions.
