The movie is good, but as entertainment only, and that only if you haven't read the book. I consider Alan Moore, in spite of his being an anarchist fruitcake, to be maybe the best fiction writer going today. He authored "V For Vendetta", "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and "The Watchmen", all three of which have been adapted into movies (altho you wouldn't recognize LOEG). But back to "From Hell". The historical facts have been distorted beyond recognition, especially those concerning Inspector Abberline and Marie (not Mary) Kelly. Let us say that all similarities to persons living or dead is purely coincidental. The plot is also manipulated to change it into a whodonit, which is not the way the book was written. Also, in the book (and in real life)Inspector Abberline goes on to live a long and happy life (died at the age of 86). But I am happy with the purchase (especially at the price I got it). The movie is well crafted and entertaining, and I received it in excellent shape and very promptly. Carlos R. GarciaRead full review
Great film, a retelling of a well known real life story with some creative license with the main players. A nice meeting of fiction and non-fiction. Great performances from many characters, plan to be surprised by the extras added to the truth.
