I find it rather sad that often a singer is not judged by her talent but by the image that singer carries with her. It was the 1980s, and I was in high school when Tiffany's song "I Think We're Alone Now" could be heard at every pep rally in every high school across the nation. Even at my high school. I was in love with this girl Sherry Copeland, and she would be dancing along with Tiffany. Tiffany would be singing, and Sherry would be dancing with her long brown, curly hair and those beautiful brown eyes. The ironic part? I couldn't get a date with Sherry, because she was already dating this guy, and my sister was dating her brother. Go figure? My luck! Sometimes, I think if Sherry would have gone out with me just once, she might have fell in love, or maybe I would have been so nervous that I would have screwed up the whole thing like "Leave it to Beaver." Who knows? But, I sure do remember the words, and they really do bring back some memories. The lyrics to that one song was just the type of lyrics that children of the rebellious nature would look back on fondly once they became adults: "Children Behave That's What They Say When We're Together And Watch How You Play They Don't Understand And So We're Running Just As Fast As We Can Holdin' Onto One Another's Hand Tryin' To Get Away Into The Night And Then You Put Your Arms Around Me And We Tumble To The Ground." Sounds a lot like a party and young love, huh? Well, that's exactly what you get when you listen to this song. A kid's love affair and maybe your high school memories will return to you immediately. Those silly dreams, and those silly days, where love was in the end just lust. Heck, we didn't know what love was. We were worried about our flawless skin and our immense adolescent insecurities. With Tiffany's "Greatest Hits," this singer has a couple more quality songs, too. Some of her sweet love songs include "Could've Been" and "All This Time." Both of these songs could be considered classical sweet, love song type melodies that bring a romantic feeling to most any age group. These songs, too, were immediate successes. There is a fourth song called "Danny" which though was never really a success, still remains - in my book - one of her better songs, because "Danny" makes one recall that 80s sound sort of along the lines of the 80s teeny-bopper films. I'm sure we all recall BOP magazine for teens back in the day. Is it still around? These four songs make up the major volume of her fame and memory in my mind. As for her other songs on the "Greatest Hits," they are not awful nor are they spectacular. Sadly, a song is much more than the sum of its parts. A song must carry us in a special way - all of us, especially if it is to be a #1 hit. A song must make one feel, and by feeling we become enraptured by a song's goal. Every song should have a goal, and "Could've Been," "All This Time," "Danny" and "I "Think We're Alone Now" swings you into 80s euphoria. Over twenty years, I still remember Tiffany had her overnight success. The problem is still known by all who loved her music: Debbie Gibson was popular at that time, and unlike Tiffany (forgive me Tiffany; we love you), Debbie was a goody-goody and Tiffany was a wild child. After awhile, people said they did not like Tiffany. I remember people saying Tiffany wasn't as beautiful as Gibson. The end result: Tiffany got a bad rep at school. Pretty cruel, but that's the music industry. Peace! 80s 4-EVA!Read full review
She's tied as the top female teen idols next to Debbie Gibson, well maybe at no. 2, Debbie at no. 1 . They both ruled the charts during the 1987 decade. They should ranked with the others like Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Shelley Fabares, Annette, etc. I admired them very much for a long time.
