Moody like a bleak winter's night and just as brutal. This film is a remake of the original swedish version and though pared down like its title suggests i think it bites deeper than LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. In this one bullied Owen is a sad lonely 12 year old from a broken home who's only friend in the world is the monster next door. Abby looks 12 but as an early scene makes clear shes anything but and the pile of corpses left in her wake soon draws the bead of a detective hot on the trail. Interspersed between the blood and savagery is the savage stuff that comes from two lost souls trying to find solace in each other, as painfully tender to watch as the throat slittings and immolations are. LET ME IN is a horror film alright, wonderfully acted, staged and gorgeous looking, its wintry 80's locale mirroring the cold stark reality of growing up all wrong. Live fast die young suck forever.
