WHEN A REVIEW IS WRITTEN, IT SHOULD NOT BE ABOUT A TRANSACTION AS ABOVE This is a solidly good reciever. It will give good sound to a group of 5.1 satellites and a sub. I would call the sound nuetral and uncolored but slightly brite but not unduly so. There is good punch to the bass. It will play music from cds and such good. Do not expect the sound to be as that of a Pioneer Elite series though. I did not test it in 7.1 mode. The receiver did go into "overload" mode on some peaks but this might have been caused by it being plugged into a shared socket with other electronic appliances. I would call the Dolby Digital detail decoding good but not as good as in the Sherwoods 6090R and 60095R. DTS however was fine. There is a number of additional extentions of sounds you can try. There is a virtual 2 channel mode, extended mode, advanced music, movie, etc. Dolby Pro-LOgic 2 music has adjustemts and does work excellent. Surprisgly, the virtual and Dpl-2MOVIE MODE was fantastic for my 2 channel stereo videos that I transferred to dvds from linear stereo VHS and reproduced surround sound all over my room. I did not like the loudness function so I would keep that off. Stick with the bass mangement only as either using small or large depending on your speaker set-up. Set-up was fairly easy, but that depends on your knowledge and your senses. I set up by ear, not by meters and use my own methods. This receiver does not feature the more advanced auto set-ups that other recivers have today. Actually, if you need only a two channel receiver with a remote and just want to hook up the audio output of your big screen television that has SRS-XT or the like and put two large speakers on this receiver or two satellites and a sub, this would do fine since you have the remote to control the receivers audio levels and the bass management set-up. This is an excellent 6.1 reciever. Ok so I have heard a ton about whats new and the latest but the truth is this reciever had enough features and power to rock the family room. With how advanced TV's r today you don't need your reciever to play the part of video switcher. I have a Sanyo TV with 3 HDMI channels going into it ... I use a digital co-ax to the Pioneer and it works like a champ. Switch the channel on the TV and you get the digital audio to the reciever. Vola'. The Pioneer is very easy to setup and even easier to configure. Although its built in EQ is a bit sub par over all this thing was worth the 40 bucks I spent on it!!!
I'm still quite old school with tape deck and VCR.. This unit allowed me to connect all my devices and works wonderfully! even with my older wii game system and the sound is amazingly excellent! great value and performance.

Purchased this item to replace my vsx3900. the 516k is a gem, works and operates as good as a new one. I had no need for extra options in a receiver, but this one has lots and i am learning as I go as i was able to print the manual associated with the unit and purchased, as well, the remote control. ALL in ALL i am very very pleased with all aspects of this Pioneer, I'm a very proud owner and customer. I would recommmend this to anyone in need of a basic+ AV system. THANKS
like brandnew. Not a mark on it. Sounds like new. very happy
