This is a decent solid game for the PS2; however if your not a die-hard fan of Robotech your most likely not to fully enjoy this game. The graphics are reminiscent of the original TV series and look absolutely great right down the the laser beams, explosions, and smoke. The attention to detail is good, all fighter models are true to the series as are your enemies. Gameplay leaves something to be desired. The controls are a little clunky especially in ger-walk (guardian) mode. You are not able to reposition the camera which would be a valuable asset to the playability of that mode. Fighter mode is pretty straight forward however I am disappointed at the inability to control your air-speed beyond fast and really fast. Battloid mode the very solid the controls take a little getting used to but once you get the hang of it you'll be able to decimate your enemies with ease. The enemy AI is a little slow (in the head) Sometimes you'll find your enemies facing a wall and attempting to walk through it and not even notice that your shooting at them. Also any obstruction (wall, bridge, building, ships) that you duct behind will cause your enemy to stop chasing you...Not very Zentradei like. If your a fan of this anime series/universe I'd say its a must have, and must play. However, if your not really into it, then your hard earned cash could probably be allocated better. Overall Score: Graphics: 9/10 Controls: 7/10 AI: 7/10 Sounds/Audio: 8/10 Mission Difficulty: 8/10 (on Normal setting) Boss Difficulty: 9/10 Weapon Balance: 7/10 Average: a Good Solid 8/10Read full review
I am a Macross fan rather than robotech. However, since they are about the same story, I figure I'd give this game a try. The game itself is fairly repetitive. Most of the missions are the defend the convoy kind. I don't know why that's the case, probably makes the game a lot easier to design. AI aren't very impressive, most of the enemy either keep shooting at you or just concentrate on the target they are assigned to. Worst of all, the game will have clitches where the computer will repeat the same command over and over again. You will not recognize most of the characters most of the time. Heroes of the anime comes out every once in a while. With all the problems, I still think it's the best Robotech game out there. Each mode (fighter, gerwalk, battleroid) all has its own strength and weakness, and very much according to the movie. Control is better than the most I tried. If only TDK spend a little more time to develop the game, it will be a great game, but unfortunately they stopped before it was mature.Read full review
The game, at first, follows closely to the Macross saga. Defending the Macross during the Zentradi invasion is amongst my favorite levels, however easy they may be. However, from there on, the game takes a turn into a fantasy story line. Many of the games attributes are great, however the AI could be a bit smarter. In some levels, however, its only possible to beat through pure luck (Cats Eye). Otherwise, its a solid buy, and a great game.
Love this game and love the anime since I was a kid. Lost this game in a home fire and now I was about to start collecting all the games I own when ps2 came out, this was one of my favorite game to play back then. Going to Keep this game for a long time.
