I have owned one of these for over one year and am very pleased with its operation. It is extremely quiet, includes a top indicator light which is lit when drive is mounted via USB, and works well with either USB 2 or USB3. Although drive is 5400 RPM (as are all bus-powered "portable" drives I have seen), its USB-3 performance is nearly as good as 7800 models, due to Windows inefficiencies. As with all bus-powered drives, use a "Y" cable with USB-2 connections unless the host computer/host or hub routinely provides double the 500 mA USB-2 spec (which many do). I have recently purchased three more of these. With extended usage (20 minutes or more continuous reading or writing), the drive gets quite warm, but not so hot it cannot be held. Cooling is radiant only (no fan). My primary use is for backing up 30,000 to 80,000 files at a time which exercises the drive very heavily for 20 to 30 minutes.Read full review

Seagate is a great brand when it comes to external hard drives. I've owned 3 (including this one) and never had any problems with them.I use mine mainly for storing media and have not had a problem transferring something onto or off of it. They are a bit more expensive than some of the other brands out there but they're great quality and have a sharp, compact look that is appealing. The space is great too, especially for the price. I bought mine when it was $79 and that's $39.50 per tb. I don't think you could find a better product for the price.

*** The 3star is for ebays shipping procedure. actual drive gets a 5star. *** ordered it on sale for $70 after thanksgiving. it shipped very quickly HOWEVER the packaging was flimsy as fck. a harddrive is fragile and has valuable electronic parts, yet they thought one packaging bag with minimal bubblewrap would be enough to protect it. when i received it there was a rip on the package that dented the box of the harddrive. the drive functioned quite slower than it should while plugged in USB 3.0 (laggy on detecting hardware, lag on loading autoplay etc.), so i ended up exchanging this at my local bestbuy. the new one works flawlessly as it should. so BEWARE if you order this from ebay, request that they use EXTRA PADDED packaging. mine came damaged due to the weakass packaging job they did. otherwise it's an exceptionally fine harddrive. the only other problem i have is the cord being too short (~18 inch). some people may not like that.Read full review

This is a fantastic drive - quiet, lightweight, and powered by the USB connection itself (which was the most attractive feature for me since it goes everywhere with me in my laptop bag). I mostly use it for photography. I am constantly dumping the images from my DSLR camera into this drive for post-processing and archival. The 2TB capacity is adequate for the price was great. All in all, it is a great portable storage.
This hard drive is one of my favorite 2TB hard drives out of several 2TB Seagate drives. It is so small and such a sleek design. Led indicates that it is on. Quality quality quality. I also like that I picked a red one. I have a matching red case for it that I picked up for $5.00 also on ebay. I have loaded it down with pictures and videos. No problems so far and none with my other older 2TB Seagate drives that are 4 years old now.
