I bought this drive to up grade my 3 year old PC to raid level one. I felt it is a good proactive action to take, considering the age of the original hard drive. I chose this particular drive because I had good prior experiences with Seagate product dependability. And the PRICE was excellent! Also, while most people depend on one big multi-tera-bit drive, I prefer to spread out my important data across a drive array. These days it is a no-brainer to set up with Intel controller chipsets and the newest Intel software. I like this particular model due to its specifications and VERY quiet operation. I plugged it in, set the RAID software, and life was good. I highly recommend this product.
This is an excelent drive, up to the normal high-quality we have come to expect from SEAGATE. Note that this is a slimline drive, measuring less than 1" in thickness. It has a very fast read/write speed, and it's seek time is superb. Note also, that it is SATAII, not SATAI. It is also downward compatible with the old SATAI protocol, so it will work equally well on either type controller.
My desktop was making revving noises, I was told the hard drive was probably failing. I decided to replace it. This is the type of hard drive I have in my other HP desktop, so I purchased this one. It has stopped the noises, and I have no problem with it. It arrived right away and was easy to install. Performance it great.
Above description refers to an "internal" drive -- HOWEVER this drive is an EXTERNAL drive with USB connection and powered by the USB connection. It was purchased as an external drive to be used as a backup drive. As with all Seagate hard drives it is fast, quiet, and was immediately recognized by Win 7 so setup was effortless. The 500 GB drive is adequate for a back up drive or for an extra hard drive for virtually all home users. I would recommend it without reservation.
Great hard drive for the money. Good size for most people and great performance. I bought it to replace a hard drive that died in my computer, so I went with this one. The 7200rpm is fast and 500gb should be plenty for just about everyone unless you are trying to amass a ridiculous collection of movies, games, and music. It fits perfectly in the desktop that I bought it for, and the price was perfect for me and cheaper than most of the other hard drives with lesser product specs.
