Dimwitted son of a powerful Colorado Senator Runs for Governor. This is a story of how a well connected political family and dubious family business alliances combine to put "their man" into the Governors office. Once this good old boy is elected, he'll be able to smooth over all of the pesky environmental regulations that constrain the business interests of his family's benefactors. Unfortunately, the bad practices of big business and bad people finally catch up with them as a murder mystery slowly unfolds. This story closely relates to a similarly well connected political family that is cozy with big business in the United States. The family I'm thinking about is now occupying the White House. Great performances by a fantastic ensemble cast. This movie was released in 2004 to a very limited area and was quietly swept away to DVD. If you like political satire, (unfortunately, it probably mimics real life politics more than we all realize), then you'll like this movie. If you appreciated Primary Colors (and you can laugh at the other side of the political spectrum) then you'll like this movie. If you voted for W in 2000 & 2004, then this movie probably isn't for you.Read full review
i just got this last night and enjoyed it immensely. there's an obvious charicature of Bush jr. and other political leaders in there, which makes it more fun. but the film really isn't about the candidate that's like him--its about an investigator brought in after a dead body is found hooked on the candidate's fishing line in the lake. its interesting where this story goes, that there's always more than meets the eye, and it takes off on so many directions, but always comes back to center. its a great contribution by the brilliant john sayles, its a thoughtful piece that i was happy to hear about and get.
Great movie!!
