I have this same camera for 15 years no problem just screen which I'm paying $50 bucks to fix so yes the screen is very delicate but even after a decade and a half it works like charm. I think the 90s models are tougher because I still have my Sony TRV62 and I dropped it 2 to 3 times and 4 years ago it finally broke but I got it repaired for $30 screen never went bad either . In my case I think Sony is overall a great of video cameras. Also giving this a 4 star because it does lack the screen criteria due to age .

I had 1 of these camera's before , it's a good camera as long as the touch screen doesn't go bad. Once touch screen goes bad its junk.

I really enjoy this device, I had one previously and it fell and broke. That is the reason I had to get another. Device is easy to use and light to carry.

I enjoy using the Sony Handycam DCR-HC21. However, the touch screen seems to break or stop working really easy and then it seems your out of a camcorder. Still for what I was looking for it is a handy little thing. I like how it still uses a tape instead of cd or sansdisk. I also like how light and perfect fit for my hand it is.
Bought this handycam to use in the absence of the model I previously owned, which fell into disrepair. My intention was not to create new videos, raher simply to be able to view the dozens of videos I'd already shot. All indicators were that this machine had never been previously used; I purchased a power cord from Amazon and may look for a remote o make operation more convenient. VERY pleased with this purchase!
