I had purchased this recording as... an LP many years ago. I had seen the Butterfield Blues Band play many of these tracks live. Paul Butterfield was an outstanding Blues vocalist, and a very under rated band leader. He remains the greatest Blues harmonica player ever. This album is a great compilation of Blues and R&B, with great arrangements and wonderful horn sections. Kudos to Elvin Bishop whose guitar was very tasteful and crisp. If you feel at all reluctant about this CD, jump in with both feet and experience one of the greatest Blues Bands to ever interpret Chicago Blues. Paul Butterfield Lives!
This is some superb Blues and ...Paul Butterfield is one of those who many today mention as an inspiration. I think a lot of harmonica playing you hear is from people who had listened to Paul Butterfield's work. The CD is dated 1989 but the original recording is actually 1967. I still have the LP album from back in the day (as well as John Mayall and others) and needed to get it on CD (sort of like in "Men in Black" where "we all need to buy the White Album again"). The CD quality is fine.
From the fine horn work, to the incredible harp work, this is t...he Butterfield Band's finest hour. It's hard to imagine Chicago blues without a great guitarist, and Bloomfield is all of that, but it's as an ensemble that this record soars. Every song has its strengths, and endures after 40 years...
Lectric guitar driven blues send up. Very nicely done....

I personally think the band peaked at this LP, ...CD now. I just love the tracks, for instance 'Run out of time' isn't on any other CD to my knowledge.'One more heartache' 'Born under a bad sign' etc. The CD format makes it easy to listen to in the car etc.
