I bought a used (Seller refurbished) Dell 990 Mini Tower with a Intel Core i7 CPU, it came with a re-certified HD, but after using 3 sources, I kept getting REPLACE type messages, and it lagged a bit too. Well, I bought this NEW WD1600HLHX 169GB HD, and WOW!!!!!! Very, very fast!!!!! You can hear it working, but I personally do NOT find it annoying, or distracting, not really! If you ever used 10K RPM drives 5-10 years ago, this one is quiet! LOL Also, it is a 2.5" drive, mounted in a shock/sound/heat absorbing caddy! (I believe those caddies do all that, right? ). I love it so much, I bought another one for my Core i5 Desktop!!!!! HIGHLY recommend this drive!!! :)

Using old Pc's Dell 740 sff I make up high performance machines. 8 gb ram 10k hard drives and GNU base os with all the systems. This device has always fit the bill. Smooth quite and fast. I use external usb 3.0 6 TB for all my loading on the PC's. When finished which takes 8 hr rebuild the machine is better than any out there. This is the most well respected line of mechanical hard drives among gamers. Still selling strong and has some advantages over SSD still (number of re-writes, such as cache). Also on servers, network systems, and more. I'm impressed, although my experience level with this product is not strong. Just recently started using them, but I already see the difference. And, I do suggest good cooling. Putting this in a "over-the-counter" retail system that uses cases that don't worry about cooling and dust is kinda like sticking a V8 in a '74 Pinto...
