Selecting a listing duration

When you list your item, you can select a listing duration of 1, 3, 5, 7, or 10 days. If you're using the fixed price format, you can also choose a 30-day or Good 'Til Cancelled listing duration. For items listed in eBay Motors Vehicle categories, the 10-day duration isn't usually recommended.

You can schedule listings to start at the day and time you choose—up to 3 weeks in advance. You can create your listings at your convenience and control the time they start and end.

What to consider

Your buyers: Many buyers watch items for a while and think about them before placing a bid or using Buy It Now. A longer duration may be to your advantage.

Shipping time: If your item is related to a certain event (for example, a ticket for a concert or a holiday gift), choose a listing end time that gives you enough time to ship the item to the buyer in time for the event or holiday.

Changing the duration

If 2 or more hours have passed since you submitted a listing, you can't change the duration of your listing.

Seller requirements for 1-day listings

For a 1-day listing, you must have a Feedback score of at least 10. If you don't meet this requirement, you won't see the 1-day option when you list an item.

Listing times

Start time:

  • When you create a listing, your item is usually listed immediately.

  • You can use the scheduled listing option to start the listing later.

  • If you have your listing set to automatically relist if it doesn't sell, the relisting of your item may be delayed for several hours.

  • Occasionally, your listing might not be searchable with a keyword or category search for several hours after you created the listing. You can always find your listing by item number or through My eBay.

End time:

  • Listings end in whole-day increments from the listing's start time. For example, if you submit your listing at 1:14 pm on Sunday and select a listing duration of 3 days, your listing will end at exactly 1:14 pm on Wednesday.

  • Fixed price listings and auction-style listings with a Buy It Now option end when a buyer pays for the item.

Listings end in whole-day increments from the listing's start time. For example, if you submit your listing at 1:14 pm on Sunday and select a duration of 3 days, your item will end at exactly 1:14 pm on Wednesday.

Time zones:

  • All times on the Canadian eBay site ( are expressed in Eastern Standard Time (Eastern Daylight Time during daylight savings). Note that this is three hours ahead of the Pacific Time standard used on the US eBay site ( For example, when an item ends at 6:00 pm Eastern in Toronto and New York, the local time will be 3 pm Pacific in Vancouver and San Francisco.

  • Eastern Time is 3 hours later than Pacific Time. For example, if it's 6:00 pm Eastern Time, it's 3:00 pm Pacific Time.

  • To see eBay's official time and a US time zone map, click the eBay official time link at the bottom of most eBay pages.

Daylight saving time:

  • Daylight saving time (DST) is the practice of moving the time forward 1 hour in the spring and moving it back 1 hour in the fall.

  • While not all areas observe daylight saving time, listings that run during a daylight saving time change will still receive the full amount of the listing duration exposure. For example, if you have a 1-day listing that you start at 1:00 pm Pacific Time on Saturday, and the daylight saving time spring transition occurs that Saturday evening, the listing will end at 2:00 pm Pacific Time on Sunday.
