GT Bicycles

GT makes a brand of bicycles that were originally designed and created by its founder, Gary Turner. Turner used his welding expertise to invent what were some of the first BMX racing bikes back in 1972, and later, mountain bikes. Among the company's designs are the pedal-assisted electric bikes that help riders on the road make it to their intended destinations using less energy.

The GT brand is a subsidiary of Dorel Industries, a Canadian-based bike manufacturer. As a branch of Dorel Industries, GT manufactures all of its BMX and mountain bike lines in Asia. GT bicycles are available in a variety of frame sizes, wheel diameters, material compositions, and colours. These bicycles are made to meet industry specifications, and they are available for purchase from dealers and retailers in Canada, the United States, and in countries all over the world.

DYNO was originally produced by Bob Morales under his independent firm. GT approached him in 1985 and offered to buy out the DYNO brand. Since Morales was seeking investors for the underfunded DYNO label, he decided to negotiate a contract with GT. The terms of the contract allowed him to stay with the DYNO bike brand to design the components and frames, as well as provide consulting services.

From 1995 to 1998, GT produced the Arette line of hybrid bicycles constructed of a steel and chromoly frame. Because of the composite materials in their construction, the bikes weighed approximately 25 pounds. Three versions of the Arette GT existed, corresponding with each year of production. In addition, the bike came in three colours of Saturn blue, sand, and blue.

• Components: The Arette was comprised of Shimano Altus and Mix components, including an aluminum ProMax Adjustable GT stem, with a sealed headset and a set of grip-shift, MRX-170, Shimano Altus C90 Rapid Fire TX SRAM MRX shifters.
• Drive train: The Arette featured seven speeds, and it has a Shimano derailleur.
• Wheels: This particular line of bikes came with tires with dimensions of 622 millimeters and with rims that were of the aluminum Araya make.

Get your GT bike inspected annually by an authorized GT retailer to ensure that it remains in working order. Keep it indoors when you are not using it, and take it in for maintenance if you notice any signs of a potential problem.
