There are many string instruments in an orchestra including:
- Violins: Most violins are about 24 inches long, and they are normally held between the left shoulder and the chin where they are played with a bow.
- Violas: These string instruments are slightly larger than a violin, but they are held in the same way. While violins are busy playing the melody, violas almost always play harmony.
