Great basic note book, but as times and materials have changed for this iconic tool, see notes re. use below.
This comes from an old school teacher. The basic notebook is just as wonderful as it's always been, but be aware of which writing implements work best with it in its present form. I've done a few at home tests.
It is GREAT if you use a standard pencil, colored pencil, crayons, or a ball point pen to record your notes in its pages. To a certain extent, PALE COLORED hi-liters are also okay.
When using anything more liquid, such as a roller ball pen, felt tip, calligraphy type pen or, (my favorite) an old fashioned fountain pen, your notes will "leak through" to the reverse side of the page. That page will still be useable, but the writing surface will not be as pristine as the previous side of the same sheet.
All of this is to say, "Use the notebook with the appropriate writing instrument!"Read full review

Mead composition book review
I do a lot of writing so I elect to use fountain pens. Various art forums had stated that Mead has a decent quality paper in their composition books. There are composition books that LOOK like Mead, but look closely, because they are NOT Mead, and their paper is crap, those are made in Thailand or some other 3rd world country. They have paper that bleeds through with fountain pen ink and they suck. I ordered a genuine Mead this time, and it works great with fountain pens, so the comments on the various fountain pen forums were right. I recommend the Mead composition books!Read full review
