GREAT GAME GOOD TIME STORY LINE

It's tempting to say that Red Dead Redemption is ahead of its time, but the reality is that this is a game of and for the times. Rockstar shows an uncanny ability to hold a mirror up to society and remind us that present day hot button issues like racism, immigration, federal government power and personal freedoms are not only nothing new, they are deeply ingrained in American society. They are forces that helped to shape America into what it is, and their inclusion in Red Dead Redemption gives it a sense of authenticity that videogames in general lack.
Red Dead Redemption is an open world action-adventure Western video game, developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. It was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 18, 2010. It is a spiritual successor to 2004's Red Dead Revolver.[6] Most of the game's story takes place in the year 1911, during the decline of the American Old West. The game follows John Marston, a former outlaw, while he sets out to hunt down his former gang members. Marston's wife and son are taken hostage by the government in ransom for his services as a bounty hunter. Having no other choice, he sets out to bring his three former gang members to justice.

After the game's release, several additions were released for it as downloadable content (DLC). The Undead Nightmare DLC, which was also released as a standalone game, added a new single-player experience, in which John Marston searches for a cure for an infectious zombie plague that has swept across the Old West.

Upon its release, Red Dead Redemption was met with universal critical acclaim, averaging 95% on both review aggregate websites Metacritic and GameRankings, making it one of the highest-rated video games for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on both websites. It won several "Game of the Year" awards. Reviewers praised the visuals, music, voice acting, open world gameplay and the story. As of February 2012, the Red Dead franchise has sold over 13 million copies.[7] IGN also praised the game highly, ranking it #3 on their list of best games this generation. A Game of the Year Edition containing all additional content was released in October 2011.[8]

This will take you back... and get your ready for Redemption 2

Whether you have already played Red Dead on previous gen or have never played it; you should buy this immediately and play it as this is one of the Best Games of All Time (in my humble opinion). And if you have an XBOX ONE X... this is a No Brainer! Unfortunately, Rockstar did nothing in terms of a remaster and Undead Nightmare STILL has several glitches including the ANNOYING headless "phantoms" that force you to restart an area (one of the few things I disliked about the game). Red Dead itself is a 5 STAR GAME. The Undead Expansion is a 3.5 due to glitches. Like I mentioned, the game is not remastered and issues from the X360 days still exist... HOWEVER... playing on the X virtually eliminates any screen tearing or frame drops. Sheer, brute power of the latest console and how it handles non-optimized games is simply amazing. Not saying this game is a reason to buy an XBOX ONE X, but if you already have one... again a No Brainer. :)Read full review...

Best western game ever

I love this game. It's so much fun. I bought this copy for my sister and we have fun playing online mode with each other. I also like how the controls are very similar to gta5 so it isn't difficult to switch between games. Read full review...

BUY IT

I'll admit, I had some reservations about Red Dead Redemption. The studio that released it (Rockstar) hadn't done too much to distinguish it from GTA with horses. Within the first 2 hours, however, I was blown away. The story starts with our hero John Marston attempting to track down his former gang leader Bill Williamson and bring him to justice. After a short cut scene, he's shot and left for dead. The game opens up after some dialogue and tutorials, leaving you to your devices in 1912's Texas and Mexico. The first thing you'll notice is the beautiful visuals. Everything has an incredible amount of detail and draw distance, and the character models animate wonderfully. Watching the sunset on horseback is a truly visceral video game experience, and won't soon be forgotten. Combat works in a very fun, gritty way. You have a large variety of period weapons to deal the bad guys (or good guys). Quests can appear by talking to certain NPCs essential to the story. They can also appear at random, forcing you to act quickly or watch an innocent die. What really surprised me was how well the minigames were made. Poker could be sold as a separate game in of itself, with AI "tells" and bluffing. Five-finger-fillet is pretty funny to watch if you make a blunder. Horseshoes and bar fights provide some enjoyable distractions. You can waltz over to a local movie theater and watch some very funny silent films that convey the mindset of the times. Red Dead Redemption has the most believable open world I've ever played, with every feature one would expect. The atmosphere is simply unmatched in terms of immersion and realism. I haven't even mentioned multiplayer yet. RDR supports up to 16 players over Xbox Live or PSN for full-on gunfights and skirmishes. Game types can range from free-for-alls to CTF-structured team based modes. There is also a separate mode called "Free Roam" that lets you and your friends form a posse and explore the entire single player map. You can slaughter gangs, hunt down wild game, and duke it out with other posses over an enormous map. There's a fully featured ranking system that tracks your progress throughout your online exploits. Multiplayer should keep you hooked for weeks on end as you shoot up the West. Overall, Read Dead Redemption is an incredibly good game that can't be missed. Pretty much everything is perfectly polished and consistent, and you'll find yourself loving the Wild West's final days. Go buy it now.Read full review...

My take on this game

Graphics are good storyline is good. This game is for Adults!!Not for kids. There’s bad language and the kills are graphic. It would probably scare a kid. With that said, for an adult game it’s good

This is one of the best games ever developed. Rockstar really knew what they were doing when they made this old western classic. Highly reccomend this game to all adults looking for a good video game.

Very good!

The game seems to be slightly improved visually from original and smoother but still looks like very similar. Glitches are still found throughout but that's what makes it feel the same and why I still love it.Read full review...
