Comparing Rosetta Stone vs Instant Immerson

Instant Immersion is much cheaper than RS but I do think RS is way overpriced. That said, IIM does not have the same quality built into the programs as RS in that the learners speech is not compared to the language itself when spoken, so really does not provide the true picture as to the progress in terms of weather another person will actually understand what the speaker has said or has tried to say. Hiragana is not really emphasized with IIM as RS does use it and actually has spelling practice of the word or phases that are being taught and requires the learner " to get it right". RS is more suited for the beginning language user, IIM has many popular phrases and can be learned by rote, ie: monkey see, monkey do, however simply listening and attempting to pronounce the phrases or words being presented is anyone's best guess as to weather or not the learner will be successful in an actual situation. Fortunately, the English language is required to be taught in Japanese schooling and most younger Japanese do understand badly spoken Japanese, so many times they do understand just what a novice speaker is trying to say. If I do not have it right, I would expect someone to critique my assessment of Instant Immersion.
