Metal in my case is necessary.

The strings are barely holding my microphone. They are very soft.
I own a microphone a rode ntg3 . The microphone is relatively heavy for this shock mount. It has 8 rubber strings, I striped all of them to that shock and still the microphone is way too heavy although it is possible to work with it, but I wouldn't recommend to use it because you never know what will happen in the field. I'm going to fix my old mount which is way more expensive but very reliable.Read full review...
