Surprise! Surprise!

I really wasn't sure what a Sod Buster knife was when I saw this Imperial Schrade for sale. I took a chance on this knife, knowing that Schrade knives are now made in China. When I received the knife and opened the box, I was surprised about the craftsmanship of the knife and how tight the knife locked up. It was certainly worth the under $10 investment for a work knife. I certainly won't worry about taking it out and working around the yard with it. The blade is very sturdy and looks like it could take some punishment. I have been reading a lot of negative comments about the 7Cr17 High Carbon Stainless Steel that is used in this knife. Honestly, when I am out in the yard cutting around sprinkler heads and cutting tree limbs, it really doesn't matter much to me. Either way, I know I am going to need to sharpen my knife after that type of work, so I would rather have a bit softer steel that is easier to sharpen than hard steel that will be difficult. For under $10, I wasn't expecting Samurai Sword quality steel! For now I am very satisfied with my purchase and have actually purchased the bit smaller version of this knife.Read full review...

Own one

Often, when one buys an inexpensive knife, it will come with small factory defects. This was not the case, however, with the Schrader Imperial IMP 22L that I received a month ago. There is a simple elegance that attracts me to this sod buster style knife that makes me carry this knife more and more. True, the factory edge that came with it was only adequate, but sharpening it is a cinch. By the way, for any one interested in improving their knife sharpening skills on a stone, I would suggest try practicing on this knife before attempting it on a more expensive knife. The metal is soft enough to experience immediate results, and you're only out 10 bucks if you were to mess up, which you won't. The knife is great in the kitchen, in the garden, and makes slicing cardboard an easy task. Highly recommended.Read full review...

Wow!

Amigo, at this measly price, you will be getting one hell of a knife, believe me.
It's solid, from top to bottom, and it benefits from a very sturdy, handsome design. This knife is a also ideal for anyone new to knife sharpening - your chance to practice on a stone til you get that edge screaming sharp! This is my ideal garden knife, I beat the heck out if it, daily, but its not limited to just that. This large Shrade Imperial is as welcome in the garden as it is on the kitchen, and let's not forget them office chores - open 'em letters and packages, cut up that cardboard, recycled plastic and cans, etc. I highly recommend this fabulous blade. One thing: Though it's listed as a 3.5 inch blade, the actual cutting edge is only 3 inches.Read full review...

Looks good

After deciding that I wasn't paying a Kings ransom for a genuine Case Sodbuster, I decided to try this Chinese copy. I'm rather impressed with the workmanship and it comes ground to a very sharp edge. How well the blade will hold it remains to be seen. Chinese steel can equal that made anywhere, I just don't how good this knife blade is. For less than $10, it's hard to fault what you get. In a blind comparison, I doubt you'd tell the difference between the Chinese Imperial and the USA Case. I love American made goods but I cannot justify spending 3x-4x the money for a tool like this. I bought it to gut and skin deer with and if I lose it...no big deal. If it was a Case, I'd be looking for it. Not worth the loss or frustration to me. I think you're getting a good deal in these knives.Read full review...

Quality I never expected.

Really wasn't expecting much for the reasonable price, except a big " Sodbuster work knife" for here, on the farm. Was greatly impressed by the quality of it when I opened it. Then, when I found that I could literally SHAVE hair off my arm with it, right outta the box, no honing, no stropping or anything. Highly unusual that ANY reasonable priced knife does that, or, that it is made of the quality of steel that will even take such an edge. With many medium priced knives, the steel isn't good enough to sharpen to a razor edge anyway, no matter what your skills of sharpening are. To say this knife impressed me, is an understatement. And trust me, I'm 75, and KNOW knives. Thanks. nohj2.Read full review...

Great Knife

If you need a larger folding knife, this is for you. I was looking for a folder which had a bigger presence---and it just happened to be an Imperial. Imperial has made great knives for many years, in fact, my first pocket knife back in 1959 was an Imperial. I recommend this knife.Read full review...

I like it!

This knife is obviously well made. It has a very solid feel and the blade opening mechanism is strong. Fit and finish is great and the blade is sharp. I'm very happy with it.

Good knife, good price

I really like the sturdiness of this knife. The blade sharpened well.

Drawback: it is a little bit too big for comfortable pocket carry

Off center brass pin.

The knifes front brass pin that holds the blade and handle was drilled off center. This causes the back of the blade to not flush with the back of the knife. Not a big deal for a cheap knife. If it had been centered I would have given it a fiveRead full review...
