One of the best book sets for kids

Maurice Sendak. I hope this set never goes out of print, and it's unlikely to. The books wear well. Kids love the rhythm and repetition in Chicken Soup With Rice and join in as it's read aloud. They love being the crabby Pierre who said, "I don't care," (and is eaten by a lion). They sneer the line. They like four little books all in one little slipcase. If I were to make a list of the best 10 or 20 books for young children this and Where the Wild Things Are by Sendak would be toward the top.Read full review...

I do care!

I had this little set as a child and remembere reading it at least a hundred times...of course as it happens when kids grow older, somebody cleans up and books n toys disappear ( to make room for new stuff of course). As an adult I could not remember the author but was told these books were then no longer available! Glad to see they still are and I was surprised at how many of the cute photos I remember exatcly. Great set of books for learning. Love the travel size

My 2 and 4 year old boys loved this set of books. I was reading them every day for a week because they kept asking me to. The Pierre book talks about a boy who gets eaten by a lion after saying "I don't care" one too many times. He is saved and he changes his tune. This was perfect for my 4 year old who often says "I don't care." The other books teach the alphabet, numbers and months in humorous ways and are just great. Kids classics from the 1960's and 1970's

My first experiences with Carol King 's music was through the animated adaptation of these books by Maurice Sendak. A funny, modern way of teaching morals and telling stories that talks TO kids, not AT them. The Nutshell Library was a wonderful way for every child to have their own Library. Compact, but made with the same loving care of their full-sized counterpart, these books stand up to the normal use of a childhood.
