A LEGACY GIFTED TO US BY GRP RECORDS TO KEEP GLENN MILLER's MUSIC ALIVE!!!

I first purchased this CD upon its initial release back in the early/mid 1980s-sadly I lost all my music around 10 years ago. Of all the titles I wanted to re-purchase, THIS Must be one of those ALL TIME "Must Haves"!
Many will have of course heard Glenn Miller at some point- from RCA recordings made during his lifetime- and whilst we CAN enjoy them still today, there is ONE thing THEY CANNOT DO for anyone aged under 70/80...That is to render a recording that would SOUND just like it would have done when they made them, because the technology of the day was not yet developed into a High Fidelity format.. much of the Power and Glory, the Highs and the Lows are quite simply LOST through the lack of recording abilty to present a DYNANMIC that is TRUE to the Original Sound of a BIG BAND...
Never before have we had a Definitive recording whose sole intent was to bring to market a Recording that WOULD accurately portray THE GLENN MILLER SOUND as WOULD HAVE been heard had you been there in the studio when recorded.
Thanks to Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen who made the project and saw it through, we now have a STATE OF THE ART recording of Exactly HOW they REALLY SOUNDED- had you been lucky enough to hear them playing LIVE or in the studio.
This recording was made in Studio 1A, built by Columbia Records in the early 60's, who owned the premises,at A+R Recording, 799 Seventh Avenue, New York City. A GREAT, HUGE studio suited to large orchestral works with an acccoustic to match.
The BEST microphones were selected- Vintage Neumann's (U-47's and U-67's) as well as RCA-44's and 77's. ADD one huge 3M 32 Track Digital "State-of-The Art" Recorder, and 18 NY session musicians, headed up by Larry O'Brien, the then current conductor and trombonist of the touring Glenn Miller Orchestra, and the scene is set for One of the ALL TIME Greatest recordings ever to be committed to Digital Tape!

For the VERY VERY first time, we can now AT LAST hear How That GLENN MILLER SOUND Really SOUNDED with its SHEER DYNAMIC RANGE intact- as well as the being able to hear for the first time the CLARITY of the drums!
Miller made music to dance to- to tap your feet to.. and ENJOY!! A "NEW" Sound that was ESSENTIALLY his own.. but the records of the day were shellac 78's with it limitations of frequencies and dynamics- and even those that were ported over onto 33 RPM LPs by RCA still lacked the BRILLIANCE of sound that was actually performed!

"IN THE DIGITAL MOOD" ranks as one of the Finest DIGITAL recordings ever made- its purpose being to GIVE THE WORLD a TRUE, faithful renditon of some of Miller's finest tunes in the ABSOLUTE BEST FIDELITY achievable.. and for many, including me, this remains a Labour of Love, a Testament to one of the World's Finest and BEST LOVED Musicians, a Once in a Lifetime Opportunity to Give us the SOUND that Miller had actually made in the FINEST recording humanly possible!

I AM A DIE-HARD GLENN MILLER FAN, AND HAVE BEEN FOR OVER 58 YEARS. I AM NOT MUCH INTO RECREATIONS, BUT FINALLY PURCHASED THIS TO SEE WHAT THE QUALITY OF THE SOUND IS. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. This is a very well done recording of the famous Glen Miller band. Very open dynamic recording. It's a keeper.
