It's a great movie, a classic Bing Crosby that everyone should see, especially a must for any Bing Crosby fan or Catholic. ;)

The movie was a great take off from The Bells of St. Mary continuing with Father O'Malley, Bing Crosby being the wonderful, charming and motivated, resourceful Father in the Catholic church that we wish all were. Such a shame that Bing's son had to accept money to jazz up his biography about his father but glad that he admitted later that he did exaggerate the scoldings he would get from Bing. I know I'm no doubt a better human for knowing I would surely get a whoopin' if I did something so wrong that a good talking to wouldn't cure. Thankfully in this movie there is none of that and just a delightful tale of Father O'Malley coming to save a church that was going under because of mismanagement by an elderly Father and in doing so helps the elder Father save face and even bring him great joy. A delightful movie for everyone young and old.Read full review...

Double Feature Treat 2 GREAT Classic Movies

What a treat to have these 2 wonderful classic movies in a double feature DVD. From 1944 Going My Way casts Bing Crosby as Father O'Malley a priest sent to help a struggling St Dominick's Church. Barry Fitzgerald plays the cranky older priest that doesn't take to well to Father O'Malley's "modern" ideas. O'Malley takes a group of "rough" juvenile delinquents & turns them into a church choir. Despite ups & downs, including the church's burning down the movie of course ends up with a happy ending. Cosby & Fitzgerald won that years Oscar award for Best Actor & Best Supporting Actor respectively. The "bad boy" choir was played by the Robert Mitchell boys Choir.
Holiday Inn is a real classic movie. It has become a tradition at our home to watch Holiday Inn & White Christmas every year at holiday time. Made in 1942 Holiday Inn stars Bing Cosby along with Fred Astaire as what else but a night club singing & dancing act. You can only guess that they both fall for the same gal. Cosby leaves the big city and turns an old farmhouse into an inn. The idea being to only open on holidays, with a nightclub type floor show. There are lots of wonderful singing & dancing numbers. Kids especially little girls enjoy the movie. A little piece of movie trivia. The song White Christmas was first performed in Holiday Inn not White Christmas which was made later in 1954. This set would be a great family Christmas gift.

A double feature

Going My Way is one of my favorite films. Bing Crosby won an academy award for his role here and I can see why. His Father O'Malley character is awesome. Barry Fitzgerald was just as good. (Check out Burt Reynolds' movie "The End" for a great Barry Fitzgerald joke) The story, the music, the performances. It was a very different time from today. People today, that is young people today, will not like this film. No violence, no sex, no nudity. They would be lost. A beautiful heart-warming gentle movie.
Believe it or not I've never seen "Holiday Inn". I suppose I should wait to watch it before I review it but I don't think I have to. With Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire what could be bad?

First Rate Films in a compact format.

Wonderful copies of 2 of my favourite Bing movies. If you've seen these and liked them, you won't be disappointed in these black and white classics. If you've never seen them, beware, they are schmaltzy in places, represent an idealised view of American society at the time and may offend some of the more "PC sensitive" viewers...are there stereotypes? Yes. Of Blacks, Irish, Catholics, Opera Singers, Latin Conductor types, Hard-boiled Song Sellers, Bowery Boys prototypes, Bankers, Crooners, Dancers, Drinkers, etc., etc., etc....but never in a mean way. The packaging is well done, and the quality of the films is first rate for audio and video both. This I would recommend to anyone who likes these two films, or anyone who wants to get acquainted with two gems of the era.Read full review...

Going My Way & Holiday Inn - Two Classics

Here is a combination of two classic movies in one set. These two movies take me back to my childhood, a time when life wasn't so hectic and full of dread. What a nice way to spend an evening, relax and leave the stress of today's world behind for an hour or so. I'm not even into musicals but I have to make an exception for these (and "White Christmas"). Today they may seem a bit "corny" but they still show the value's we should still be following. I think everyone should see these movie's at least once in their lifetime. If you do watch them once... you'll watch them again!Read full review...

Going My Way

A movie you never get tired of seeing. It's one I love seeing at least once a year. It's funny and a tear jerker combined but a tear jerker from a joyful point of view. I think it's Crosby's best film. I like almost all of his films but this one is a great movie.Read full review...

I'm in my late 60's. I've seen these two movies many, many times, but never in color. I was pleasantly surprised that the colors weren't blurry or hazy. Great buy...good-bye...e l woodworth

We remember these movies from back when we were kids. They are fun to watch again. The DVD was clear and perfect. Would love some of the other oldies.
