National Treasure 2005

I am not a fan of Nicolas Cage. As a romantic lead - not realistic. As a scientist who has a brain and uses it - fantastic.

The more Cage downplayed his role, the more realistic he became.
<br>I am a fan of history and this movie was very satisfying from that vantage point.

Cage's love interest, Diane Kruger, is whiney and spoiled, but gets the job done. The movie would have been better had this story NOT developed a romantic angle. The fact she is a fresh face helped sell her portrayal.

The Brits (Sean Bean)and Scots are perfect as bad guys. Even though they are "bad", you want to hug 'em. They have a wonderful sense of humor. They make the show, along with the spectacular real scenery and Cage's side-kick.

Jon Voight is good, but the elderly actor portraying HIS father was perfect. Hope to see LOTS more of this elderly actor.

For ONCE, Harvey Keitel does not use filthy language to sell his performance. His fondness for inserting the "F" word in numerous parts of every sentence is fatuous and detracts from his credibility as a professional.

Keitel was mis-cast; as he has portrayed cops, ad-nauseum. Producers needed a fresh face to bring authenticity to this lead cop role.

Viewers watch the actual "real life" historical sites in National Treasure - a REAL added bonus to folks who have never visited the East Coast.

You WILL definitely be on the edge of your seat; except when the hard core, militarily trained, scientist goes all wobbly in the middle of his life-long goal to fixate on the pretty face.

The next National Treasure is coming out in May - can't wait to buy it!

Enjoy!

Cool Cage

National Treasure was not on my must-watch list. but it turned out to be a most pleasant surprise. the history behind the show may not be accurate and it also has around it, an air of mystery, but it certainly was a fun filled ride with the face-paced action flicks! I'm NOT a particular Cage fan. nonetheless i had to admit he did a pretty good job as Ben Gates - slightly serious yet very witty! together with Riley, they provided the tickles that brought the audience through the entire film.

with no explicit language and scenes, National Treasure is well-suited for family entertainment! its a light-hearted film good for an evening of chilling out! the subtle love story also adds credit to the film.

National Treasure: A Fun-filled Pleasure

It's a fun ride for those who can forgive its highly improbable plot. The treasure hunt is cool in this DVD. It's a whole game of numbers and quizzes, so go get to some of the Easter eggs. The film plays on every cliché and every stereotype imaginable, and part of it's charm is playing them exactly to an audience's happiest expectations. The historical touches make the film more akin to classics like "Raiders of the Lost Ark" than to duds like "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins", and ended simultaneously. The film may be dumb and relatively short on action scenes, but it's still a lot of fun, largely in thanks to Nicolas Cage and Justin Bartha. Few can argue that the movie is totally unbelievable, but if one is able to leave all sense of logic at the door, it's very hard not to have a darn good time in the process. Strangely, I found myself liking this movie.Read full review...

National Treasure (DVD, 2005)

A wild ride, if you can believe the plot, or that anything so reckless could ever be accomplished. A treasure hunt in 21st Century Washington D.C. to find a vast treasure hidden by Freemasons during the Revolutionary War. Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) is a descendent of an early American patriot who was privy to information as to the location of the treasure. From locating a two hundred year old shipwreck in the North Pole, to stealing the U.S. Constitution, with a female cryptographer reluctantly tagging along for the ride, this fabricated history lesson with Cage playing James Bond or Sherlock Holmes, follows clues that nobody else was smart enough to do. His assumptions always correct, every move the right move. . . Give me a break!

This movie could be a lot more enjoyable if it was, even in the slightest way, geared even a little bit towards people who possess a positive I.Q. Instead, it focuses at what appears to be a 16 year-old crowd who not only has no knowledge of American history, but need the constant adrenaline rush of non-stop action. This movie is not totally without merit, it is just overplayed.

One of the greatest adventure movies out there!

National Treasure is honestly my favorite movie I have ever seen. The amazing thing about this movie is how it is not one of those "based on a true story," yet it is a totally different story - it has true, historical facts in the movie, yet it doesn't bore you like some documentaries. It uses the real historic places in the United States such as Boston, Massachusetts in the movie, too. I enjoy seeing places that I have actually visited in real life.
Nicolas Cage is the perfect actor for his main role in the movie as Benjamin Gates. Given a clue that his grandfather spent his whole life translating, he makes his way around the world finding clue after clue and leading him to steel one of the most prized US historic possessions - The Declaration of Independence. And how will he steel such a guarded piece of history? By using a complex plan as such used in movies such as Oceans 11.
This movie is filled with suspense, excitement, action, betrayal, and even a love story mixed into it all! Its one of those movies that you yell at people who talk during it because it is so intense and thrilling you just can't pause it. It was a bit of many different types of movies so everyone is pleased. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone and everyone!

National Treasure: Turning Historic Items into Clues

Could the key to finding a treasure have been hidden for centuries on the back of the most famous document in the history of the United States of America? Would not it have been found by now? National Treasure incorprates some real history facts into clues that lead to the place where the founders of the United States hid the treasure, but is it still there? This action packed treasure hunt includes great footage that takes you to settings in Washington, D.C., the Arctic, Philadelphia, New York, and more. Although the movie is mostly fiction, I have found it to be useful in teaching how to determine the facts within fiction. Great fun part of an American Revolution curriculum. I used it in summer schooling a junior high boy and it really helped engage him in the subject of early American history.Read full review...

National Treasure

American history gets a cool make-over in this Jerry Bruckheimer-produced comedic action thriller. Nicholas Cage plays Ben Gates, the descendent of an early American patriot who has left him information relating to a vast treasure, hidden during the Revolutionary War by the Freemasons. A clue at the north pole sets things in motion, and Ben must use his formidable cryptography skills to decipher puzzles hidden in the most unlikely places--one appears on the dollar bill, and another is on the back of the U.S. constitution. Ben's unscrupulous former partner (Sean Bean) and his gang of thugs are also after the treasure for selfish, evil purposes. A plot to steal the Constitution sets off a 13-colony-wide chase with all the trimmings: cops going after the wrong man, the rescue of a cute female cryptographer (Diane Kruger) who tags along for the ride, and Jon Voight answering the door in the middle of the night as Ben's disapproving father. High-speed editing and a clever script make this an enjoyable history lesson, with Cage's character masquerading as his own versions of Sherlock Holmes, Indiana Jones, and an over-caffeinated Washington D.C. tour guide. He and Kruger demonstrate some fine romantic chemistry, and Justin Bartha gets off some legitimately funny lines as Ben's long-suffering sidekick. Last but not least, Harvey Keitel makes a very cool FBI chief.Read full review...
