Nintendogs..a Good Game!

I purchased Nintendogs a few weeks ago, and have been playing it ever since. My friends had said that it was a fun game, and since we had just gotten a new Nintendo DS Lite, I decided to buy it.
Some of the good things about the game:
-It has great graphics. The game's graphics are so life like, it's like you are there.
-There are many different breed choices. (It was so hard for me to decide.)
-You get to choose your dogs name, train it, feed it, bathe it, the list goes on. Since I can't own a dog (I am allergic), I really like it, because it's like I really do have a dog.
-It teaches me to be more responsible. I have to take care of him, every day, even if it's just feeding him. I am always saying to my parents "I have to feed Max"(My dog) and they understand.
The bad things:
-The game is kind of repetitive. You sometimes have to do the same thing over, and over again. It sometimes gets annoying.
- You can't just go to the store (sometimes) and get things you want.(Ex.-I want to get my dog treats, but whenever I go, it is never available, like it was before.)
-You can't have one dog at the Dog Hotel in the game, and have no dogs at home. (This gets annoying when I went on vacation, and wasn't able to bring the DS. Fortunately, someone was able to take care of Max for me.)

Overall, the game is good. I enjoy playing it, and I think it was worth the money I spent on it. Have fun! :-)

Very cute game!

My eight year old LOVES this game, she plays it every day to "check on her puppy." It takes some patience to teach the puppy tricks and to train them, but i think it gives a little taste of what its like to care for a real pet. You have to take it for walks and clean up after it, buy it food and water and bath it every day or two. You can even walk to the bark park to play frisbee and play with other dogs. It makes great use of the DS touch screen, probably not a game for everyone though since there isn't alot of action. Overall very cute, I even find myself playing it sometimes.Read full review...

Great use of the DS mic

This is a very interactive game. Time goes on in the game even when you are not playing it (which can be either good or bad). It also has a very big use of the microphone in the DS so that you can "talk" to your dog and give it commands. So far that function works just fine except my dog fails to recognize his name (which is probably my fault). Everything is so far so good, but it might become boring to me later on. Not sure about other people!

I have just started the game off with a husky! XD

Cute Game for Passing Time

This is a cute game and is easy to get sucked into, but it's not super exciting or fun and I was expecting a lot more from it when I purchased it.

I like the walks, finding the surprises on the way, the park, training & competitions. Giving them baths, brushing, & taking care of them is fun. Trying on all the different accessories that you find is fun. (especially love the mariokart & the helicopter special finds... they're so funny to play with).

I don't like that you can only have 6 dogs total. I wanted to be able to have at least have one of every breed, but after 6 you have to give up a dog to make room for a new one. After all the training, advancement & care taking of the dogs you get a little attached & it's not cool that you have to erase them. So when you "unlock" a new breed, it's bittersweet...yay, I can get a new breed, but boo... if I want it I have to erase one of the dogs I have.

I don't like that they can only wear one accessory at a time, that you can't skip the commentary before the competitions, or that when dogs meet on walks there's no progression in their relationship. Example - if my dog runs into the dog Logan and they become friends during that meeting, the next time they meet they start over as if they've never met. & the other dogs owners always say the same exact things. It's more annoying than fun when they run into another dog out walking.

And voice recognition - well, it works for me (most of the time), but for my 6 year old who also loves playing with & taking care of the dogs the voice thing isn't so easy. He can't train them or name them because it doesn't pick up his voice so well & you have to say it the same exact way each time which is hard to get a child to do.

A dog lives in my DS!

So at first glance, this type of game doesn't really seem aligned with my age. Being in my mid twenties and a professional, I assumed this game was meant for a younger crowd. It is, but it doesn't really matter because a good game is a good game.

Think "The Sims" open ended play with...dogs. You can take them out for walks, which can get longer and longer the more you walk them. You can buy them products and food. You can enter them into competitions.

The only problem I had with the game is that there wasn't much self sufficiency with the dogs. You turn off the DS and turn it back on, and they are starving. There is some amount of guilt with this! I had to go to work...I'm not an abusive owner!

Recommend it if you

AWESOME GAME Nintendogs

This game is so wonderful, I get to raise three dogs of my choosing that I would not otherwise be able to afford/take care of them in real life.
The graphics I must admit are absolutely beautiful, and really well generated.
The dogs are so lifelike and realistic that they're pretty much real dogs. The only drawback is that you have to feed them and give them water sometimes three to four times a day, and real dogs don't need to be fed that much! Water I could understand, but food? Anyways, the game is quite realistic in the prices for the puppies with prices around $500 for one pup is pretty accurate. I liked the way you can walk your dog and everything, but its a pain in the butt trying to get to the discount store if both your dogs are tired. So therefore most of the time you are paying the top dollar price for items, well you know what they say you pay for convenience. There are a bunch of things you can do, and even if you unlock everything and purchase the nicest house design, you can still go back and do more. Plus its nice to turn on your Nintendo DS and know there is a happy puppy waiting for you, even if you live in an apartment and can't afford to pay the deposit for a real one. The only problem I had, was that it is REALLY hard to teach certain dogs certain tricks, some pretty much are fast learners and learn certain tricks better than others...Other than that, this game is really fun, and can make any loner(or anyone who's lonely) feel better about him or herself. ;)

Dachshund fun

This was a gift for my daughter (9yrs old). She was extremely happy about it, but I don't personally play this stuff, so I don't and cannot explain if it is easy or hard. I can only say that she has had another nintendog game, and this new one is her favorite. I asked her what is her favorite thing about it and she responded that she can "walk and feed them". I must say that the care for them is a lot easier than the real thing. Bottom line, it was a good purchase.Read full review...

One of the best games for kids

I played this game when it came out (I was around 10) and i LOVED it. I just bought my daughter (2 years old) a DSI XL and she LOVES this game. So fun and great for kids. You don't really have to do anything and it's super easy! One of my favorite games overall and I'm 23 now lol
Would definitely recommend for kids and they'll love playing it

The benefit of having a cute doggie, but with no ...

... smell or poopoo to deal with!!!

I bought this game before my pre-order of DS Lite actually arrived. I had heard it's a good game, but I had no idea it was this cute. I love dogs, but I don't own one because they're smelly.. And I can tell you this, that this is the closest thing you can get to having a dog without actually having a dog. The graphics are beautiful, the dogs are cute, the interface is straight forward, the voice recognition is great, and there are a bunch of fun thing to do. You can comepete in obedience contests, Frisbee test or agility test. You can change your room, you can buy food, or stuff to decorate your dog with. You can feed him, pet him, teach him tricks, play with him, brush him, and wash him. Anyways this game is one of the funnest, most addictive, and innovative games I have seen to date.. If you are a DS owner, you need to buy this.Read full review...
