Only if you are really into the great Vincent Price

I must say I am not really into horror films aside from a few of the classic Hammer movies. These two similar themed movies are from the 1970's, again, not my favorite period. Two strikes so far. What saves the whole package is the great performances by the master Vincent Price.

THEATER OF BLOOD (1973) is the better movie is this package. It also stars Diana Rigg which should be a good thing if her character wasn't ridiculously garbed in poor disguises most of the time. Anyway, the main plot is a good one: theater critics are gruesomely assassinated one by one with methods taken from Shakespear's play.

MADHOUSE (1974) is a wrong title for this movie. It has nothing to do with an institution for insane people. They were actually more crazy people in THEATER OF BLOOD than in this one. This is a bad one, lame plot, even worse direction and execution. Even the great Peter Cushing and master Vincent Price cannot save this ridiculous movie.

I got this DVD, with a few more (and better) of the fun MGM Midnite Movies cult classics series, for less than $10 from Movie Magic USA. So it was still worth it.Read full review...

Horror Actor

Vincent Price plays aging actors in his last two starring vehicles.

Both movies are well done and scary. The letdown on this DVD is both of these widescreen movies are mastered in 4:3 instead of the 16:9 that has become standard. Unless you're watching on an older TV you will be disappointed.Read full review...

One the best films ever made!!!

"Theater of Blood" has excellent acting, good to great directing and cinematography! Wonderful perfect script! Diana Rigg is really good and so is the superb cast of victims. Vincent delivers the performance of his life! This is a film that just gets better every time its viewed! Good color and sound for the really good soundtrack and musical score, too!!! "Madhouse" is not as good but boasts fine performances by Vincent Price and Peter Cushing! Great good fun!!!Read full review...

Great Flick!

These are some of Price's best work! Madhouse is a 'must see' in my book. A departure from his work in the Poe films, and he really has fun with the role.

A Classic
