A Tangled Web Of Love And Deceit ---- Murder Follows

"Fallen Angel" is love triangle, murder melodrama starring Dana Andrews. He's a drifter that falls in love with the bad girl but marries the good girl for her money. It's a tangled web of deceit and greed but has a good ending. The bad girl is a waitress that several of the male customers have fallen in love with. She treats her admirers badly and therein lies the murder mystery. Dana Andrews learns his lesson just in time and the story resolves itself nicely. It's a good movie and I recommend it to all, serious, movie fans.Read full review...

Nice Piece of Work

Takes alot of guts and talent for a leading good guy like Dana Andrews to take a role where he's really not such a good guy. He pulls it off with great acting not to mention the great story plot. The fem fettle is a knock-out better looking than the leading lady.Read full review...

Great little noir

Fallen Angel is a fine entry in the film noir genre. It has all the necessary elements--la femme fatale; the hard-bitten anti-hero; the pitiful good girl; stock character actors lending either their trademark whimsy or menace; stark, inventive lighting effects; a fairly convoluted plot; sinuous music; and a hapless, world-weary air that nevertheless manages to elevate itself into something both wry and touching.

The acting is fine all around but special kudos are reserved for Dana Andrews. He is careful not to overdo the moral and emotional evolution of his character. He keeps it subtle and all the more effective for it. Ultimately, his rendition of an unmitigated cad becomes quite moving.

Percy Kilbride also deserves a particular mention. His role is small but carries a lot of impact because of the empathy he wrings out of it almost effortlessly. It is interesting to contrast this performance with his 'Pa Kettle' persona which would launch him to greater fame a couple of years later. In Fallen Angel he conveys soulfulness as easily as Pa Kettle conveys sloth.

This dvd contains an entertaining commentary track by noir historian Eddie Muller who is joined by none other than Susan Andrews, daughter of the film's male lead.

Good film noir

Better than average 40s fare. I am a fan of Dana Andrews, kind of an underrated actor of that era.

I bought it for my mother.

I bought it for my mother.
I don't know anything about the film. My mother wanted it because she said she never got to see it when it was out in theaters. As far as I know she enjoyed the DVD.
