The best kept secrete Mario game ever.

This is a FANTASTIC story driven game with all the best RPG elements to boot. As a lesser known title (because it was released right after the Nintendo 64 came out) it boasts hours of fun and laughter for all ages as well as a compelling story line and skill based combat. That's right, how you may ask is skill involve, timed hits!. Right now you are asking yourself (what's a timed hit) in the game combat screen timed hits are enacted when you press the A button at the correct moment to follow up your initial attack with a follow up attack to deal more damage. This not only applies to attacks but skills as well, each having their own timing which you can learn to either increase damage or increase effects such as healing, defense boosts as well as offensive buffs. This game features classic elements such as leveling, equipment, skills, turn based fighting, and much much more. Look no further if you are looking for a classic game for all ages to enjoy. A Must Have For SNES Gamers

One of the best SNES games IMO. For those who are rpg newbies or love Mario games this is for you! If you've ever played any of the Paper Mario series this has the same mechanics, the grandfather to them. Price is a bit high considering it is easy to find. However if you have a SNES you should own a copy as well.Read full review...

The Mario game people hardly know about.

This game was released four months prior to one of Nintendo's greatest system, the N64. SMRPG wan't given a fighting chance to gain popularity among the American people.

Therefore, Super Mario is hardly ever mentioned when people converse nostalgically about SNES games.

An big hype was made about Donkey Kong Country's fully rendered graphics and ACM. DKC is fully deserving of such praise, but when the game that was finally released that wasn't a part of the DKC series and obtained the ACM technology, Mario's final appearance on the SNES came out with a whine.

Because of such carelessness of Nintendo developers, many players do not know the Magic of Super Mario RPG.

I am one of those who did not know of such a game until eight years after it's release. Sure, I heard about Super Mario World, Zelda, and Donkey Kong Country as I was growing up, but I was a victim of the N64's engaging power.

Once I ordered it from eBay, I experienced the missing link; the Mario game that ended the SNES legacy and that opened the frontier to the (I must admit) awesome Nintendo 64.

If you have not played SMRPG, please do not go what I went through. For your sake, buy it now. For a mere $50 a day (for one day), you can finally fulfill the duty of a player, and revive the dead game, Super Mario RPG.

Great game

I played the game and it was in great condition. It was my favorite game when I first played it and I'm glad that I have it back. Put the game in the SNES, turned it on and it went right to the preview and unlike my previous one, it didn't erase my save game. Read full review...

This game is Great!

This is collaboration of Square and Nintendo that was released to North America in 1996. It combines the platforming elements of Mario and adds RPG game play.It is a unique mix of the two genre's that make a great game. This game also started the Paper Mario series. It isn't as good as Final Fantasy III, or Chrono trigger, but if you collect for SNES, this game needs to be in your collection.Read full review...

The most super of all super mario's.

Square Enix takes you on yet another adventure, this time with the help of the mushroom kingdom. Mario takes the role of saving the princess yet again in a new role playing style. 3-D graphics and interactive role playing keep you locked into this adventure. This will be one of the greatest mario games you have ever played. Even if you are not a fan of role-playing games, you will find many things to make you think different. Truly a must play for all gamers young and old.

This game is packed ton of features. The main story has plenty in it to keep you occupied for hours. For additional fun, there are loads of mini-games to distract you from the hassle of saving the princess once again. Hidden inside the game are references to other video game characters such as Link, Samus, and the original super mario.

Some of the down sides of this game include the tedious controls. The new 3-D exploration is a bit touchy. Several missions require you to be very accurate with jumps and the controls make it quite frustrating. The game at time can seem quite linear. Adding to its linear story line, it is very short. For an RPG, it is one of the shortest. It can easily be completed in a few hours, considering you don't spent a lot of time leveling up or doing most of the side missions or mini-games.

The game is worth playing. It is a sure 5 out of 5. However, I just wish that there was more of it to play. The sequel is supposedly Paper Mario for the N64, but I just can't accept that fact and will think to myself that it ended with that game. Super Mario Rpg is worth the purchase. It is getting more and more expensive, so I would pick a copy now before it's too late.

Super Mario RPG, incredible game, Nintendo at its best!!!

This game is truly fantastic! Any fan of Mario or any fan of RPG's in general should play this game. This game is kind of like Dragon Warrior for the NES in that you walk through an overworld map and bump into enemies in which you go into battle mode, the only difference is that you actually see and know when you'll bump into enemies in Super Mario RPG. A lot of elements from Dragon Warrior and staples from a lot of other RPG's are present in this game. When in battle mode you can choose between normal attack, run, item or magic. Every time you defeat an enemy in battle mode you level up your experienced points which go towards leveling up. The more you level up the more experience pointsit takes to get to the next level and the longer it will take. You team up with other characters that you can fight with in this game as Mario, such as Princess Toadstool, a tubby little character named Mallow, a wizard named Geno, and beleive it or not, Bowser. Yes Lord Bowser. Every character has their own specific attack, healing and magic abilities. You can also purchase special items such as body armor that will increase your defense and elixirs which can bring back fallen friends. The graphics on this game is quite impressive for an SNES game, quite possibly the best you'll encounter, maybe save for Donkey Kong Country. The music is high quality as well. The storyline is pretty good too. It's quite the in depth game. For a game made for the SNES it is quite extensive as well. It will take you awhile to beat this game. There are a lot of secrets in this game such as hidden question mark blocks and hidden paths leading to special items, enemies and upgrades. There are quite a few fun mini games thrown into the mix as well if you need a break from the action, though you will have to find them and some may be hidden. The boss fights especially towards the end of the game are pretty hard, so make sure the your at a high level. If you're not strong enough you'll have to beef up your EP and level up, though you'll have to fight some of the more challenging enemies in battle to level up quicker, goomba after goomba really isn't going to do it. I loved this game so very much when I was younger and I'm going to have a lot of fun playing it again. I can't really say enough about this game. This is one of the few times Nintendo had deviated from the usual sidecrolling adventure that we're all used to and it was nothing short of an epic grand slam. This gmae is also one of the more rare SNES titles. I've seen it at a few of my local used video game stores going from $50-$75. I am lucky and absolutely elated that I picked it up for around $40!!! If you can pick up this game for that or less, jump on it! It'll be well worth your time and money, especially if all you plan to do is flip it, though personally for me, it's going to stay in my colleciton and represented as one of my shining gems amidst my collection. Highly recommend!!!Read full review...
