2006 X-Men (& Women) The Last Stand's Film Soundtrack

I'm all for making the next X-... film, "X-Women" in order to find out how well the men in the film respond to being clumped together into the gender category of Women like the women of X-Men have been!

Nevertheless, this CD of "The Last Stand's" film soundtrack is exquisite! The 27 tracks are as follows:

1) 20 Years Ago
2) Bathroom Titles
3) Church of Magneto & The Raven is My Slave Name
4) Meet Leech & Then Off to the Lake
5) Whirlpool of Love
6) Examining Jean
7) Dark Phoenix
8) Angel's Cure
9) Jean and Logan
10) Dark Phoenix Awakes
11) Rejection is Never Easy
12) Magneto Plots
13) Entering the House
14) Dark Phoenix's Tragedy
15) Farewell to X
16) The Funeral
17) Skating on the Pond
18) Cure Wars
19) Fight in the Woods
20) St. Lupus Day
21) Building Bridges
22) Shock and No Oars
23) Attack on Alcatraz
24) Massacre
25) The Battle of the Cure
26) Phoenix Rises
27) The Last Stand

The composer of this impressive score is John Powell. The musicians of the ensemble are as follows:

Jennifer Barnes, Joan Beal, Beth Anderson (vocals); Marcia Dickstein, Katie Kirkpatrick (harp); Eun Mee Ahn, Bruce Dukov, Roger Wilkie (violin); Brian Dembow, Thomas Diener, Andrew Duckles (viola); Giovanna Clayton, Paul Cohen, Steve Erdody (cello); Steve Kujala, Heather Clark, Dave Shostac (flute); Dan Higgins, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Josh Ranz (clarinet); David Weiss (oboe); Rose Corrigan, Kenneth Munday (bassoon); Jon Lewis, Harry Kim, Rick Baptist (trumpet); Mark Adams, Nathan Campbell, Jim Thatcher (French horn); Alan Kaplan, Alex Iles, Charlie Loper (trombone); Doug Tornquist, John Van Houten, Jim Self (tuba); Doug Petty (piano, celesta); Richard Feves, Ed Meares, Drew D. X-Men: The Last Stand - Soundtrack

John Powell has crafted a masterful score for X-Men: The Last Stand. Whereas John Ottmans score for X2 was too orchestral and generic Powell's sounds like X-Men - the heroic theme appearing in "Bathroom Titles" but especially the Dark Phoenix theme making its first appearance in "Whirlpool of Love".

The entire album flows through pounding all out action music complete with choir interspersed with tender quiet moments to a thrilling finale in "Pheonix Rises" then a reprise of the themes in "The Last Stand".

Surprisingly for Powell there are very few electronics in the score he has opted instead for a massive orchestra and choir.

Definietly recommended.
