Sometimes imitation isn't flattering

This game looks to me like a rather obvious ripoff of Gran Tourismo. GT Pro Series even has a Clubman race series and the expected Japan-only cars like Honda Beat, Nissan Syliva, etc. You also have to pass fairly easy driving tests and get licenses to gain access to all except the first races. Sound familiar?

Steering control is better than expected. I can even control a drift with the crudely modeled cars in this game. Maybe it was just beginner's luck. For some unfathomable reason, we're using buttons for brake and accelerator with no other control config options. Don't worry, though, you can beep your car's horn. You can look behind and also switch among four forward views: bumper, dash (actually over hood), near chase, not so near chase.

After spending a few hours with this game, the main challenge is crude control. The cars all seem to have the same physics model. It is usually pretty easy to see the track and figure out where you're going, due to the crude graphics and absence of visual clutter.

In career mode, winning races unlocks more cars and upgrade parts. The upgrades are generic and you can apply the new air filter, blue headlights, or whatever, to the available car of your choice.

If you get tired of the limited car color choices then you can paint your car using RGB sliders. Now that my 180SX is orange, I feel much better about this game.

On a positive note, the car selection screen includes graphic representation of car's handling, acceleration, and top speed so you can compare cars and try to pick the best performing one. If this game was graphically up-to-date, maybe your selected car would look cool with new paint.

One suggestion that I strongly urge you to heed: turn off the background music or turn down the sound on tv when racing. The music and sound effects are horrible. The music is what I'd call Japanese Techno-Dance and might be okay in real life but it's done poorly in game. The car engines all have the same buzzing sound sort of like a big flies.

Overall, this would have been a good racing game in about the year 1990 or so. Obviously the manufacturer doesn't think enough of video gamers to spend time and money on developing a REAL racing game for the Wii. If you bought this title new then you should be offended at the way the manufacture insulted you by assuming that you're dumb and undiscerning enough to accept any sloppy effort as a worthwhile racing sim. I guess this is probably true for about 90% of games out there since video games first appeared for retail purchase.

At $10-15 you might get some enjoyment out of GT Pro Series but don't expect much. I admit that unlocking new cars and parts is kinda fun. Heck, a surprise is still a surprise. GT Pro Series might be fun to play with friends as a party game. If you're looking for a racing SIMULATION with a fairly realistic appearance and control, then keep looking because GT Pro Series for the Wii definitely ain't it. If you're new to driving/racing games then this title might discourage you from exploring the genre further.

I've played video and computer games since about 1988 on nearly every game system from Odyssey to PC. I like racing games--good ones, that is. I'm no pro gamer but can tell a decent driving sim from a bad one and have a fair amount of experience with both. Thanks for reading, hope this helps.

Grand Turismo rip off and I like it :)

This had been considered a Grand Turismo rip off...which is actually what I wanted. Granted, it isn't as good as grand turismo, but it is still good. I like using the controller's arrow keys to go left and right instead of using the controller like a steering wheel and you have this option with GT pro series. The music is cheesy and the graphics aren't as good as the majority of wii games but it is still fun to play.Read full review...

GT Pro Series (Wii)

Being fairly new to the Wii, I was trying to find a game that I could learn and also wanted a 1-4 player game. This game filled all my needs. It is fun. It takes a little getting used to the feel of the Wii remote. Serious gamers probably will prefer to use the steering wheel. The game gives you many options and cars the more you win. This creates a challenging long term game.Read full review...

Another Great Wii Title

When playing this game with the steering wheel attachment for the Wii controller, the control of this game is realistic, and FUN! Early on you learn that it is necessary to be able to control a power slide and how to feather the throttle to get that little extra help on the sharp corners!
If there were analog foot controls, this game would be perfect.

Horrible Graphics(Early GC), Steep Learning Curve,GT???

You're lucky if you buy it for $49.99 with the bonus steering wheel, which is still not that worth it at a $30 Value of the game by itself. First of all, horrible, horrible graphics that look like an early gamecube game or a dreamcast game. The controls are pretty hard to control with the wheel. As far as excitement level i give it a 3.5/10. This game ranks at the very bottom in my opinion among wii racing games. The racing places are not interesting and very boring. I say don't buy if you like racing. Get Excite Truck or Monster 4x4 if you like fun,off-road and challenging racing, and Need For Speed Carbon if you like street racing. Not worth $50.Read full review...

Average Game

Graphics straight out of the late 80's, and rediculous gameplay make this a don't-buy product. The biggest problem with this game is the car control. How can any car go around a hair-pin bend at full throttle with no braking. Sure the car goes into the rough, but with little loss of speed, or control. No crashes, no rollover, no gameplay.

NO NO NO Not worth your hard earned money ! No Way !

Seven Year Old Loves It!

I bought this for my seven year old grandson. He mentioned he wanted it and being loved as he is I couldn't resist his big brown eyes staring at me. He loves it! He said the best thing about it is it has a garage. Never having played a wii game I must take his word for it. He has several games and enjoys this one very much.Read full review...

Wii Gt Pro Review

This is a great racing game to get your collection started. It is fairly easy to play, and not too difficult to win after you play a few times, but still somewhat challenging. Controls are easy, car selection good.Read full review...
